Probably as much of a loss of interest as anything else. It is obvious no one can change your opinion nor can you change others; stalemates get kind of pointless.

And what would be accomplished by changing an opinion? Would corruption go away? Would a corrupt cop be arrested/fired? If someone is claiming to be a 'good' LEO, yet abuses their authority by ignoring laws when it benefits them, or allowing others to ignore laws, they are flat out lying. I post to draw out the facts of a situation. If the claim is a rare bad apple is purged by 'the system', yet some people here are bad apples and have been employed for decades, then that claim is proven to be false. That claim can then be discarded and we're one step closer to figuring out how to effectively remove, or prevent, corruption.

Let's not confuse facts with opinion. There is no such thing as a factual stalemate; something is a fact or it isn't. Just as police are corrupt or they aren't. If a LEO's job is to uphold the laws and they selectively refuse to, they are corrupt. Personally, I'd much rather run into a ******* LEO who is by-the-book than a polite one who ignores the law when they feel like it. Though, if they were by-the-book they wouldn't be a ******* nor selective.

Law enforcement is one of many jobs where even one bad apple is too many and the people who see it and do nothing are accomplices in the rot, whether they want to admit it to themselves or not. A corrupt cop claiming to be 'good' is analogous to a guilty man claiming "but I'm innocent!". Claims don't alter facts, no matter the source.

It seems quite pointless to have a thread regarding corruption with a goal of ego boosting or deflating. If that were the goal, then I understand why people would get bored. So why not make it productive?

It is a fact there is corruption in law enforcement. It is a fact corruption breeds corruption. So, wouldn't it be more productive to find out the extent of the corruption and how to prevent it from (re)occurring? Even if I loved every cop on the planet, no matter how competent or by-the-book, it wouldn't stop incompetence or corruption. In fact, it would encourage it. Generalized respect and admiration is the antithesis of personal responsibility. Working to that end is infinitely more productive than bickering back and forth if police in general are a subjective 'good' or 'bad'.

Buy hey, this is a tractor forum, so ignore the idea as you wish. Just putting it out there..

There are several areas in the US without a law enforcement presence. KY your home state had one at one time. One of the most lucrative I have heard about was here in the 1980's 1980s Marijuana Smugglers Recall The Glory Days - Toke of the Town. If you feel comfortable living in an environment without a law enforcement presence, this is the US and we as citizens have this right. I think the majority of us like the thought of having a buffer between the criminal element, us and our families.

Isn't that the point of this thread? When the cops are the criminals, what then? I'd rather have illegal pot growers as neighbors than crooked police. One of them knows they are criminals and the other is in denial. Can you figure out which is which?

Interesting how the article notes the drug smugglers had no need for guns. It isn't until people feel threatened when violence ensues.

Your war on drugs example is a losing argument. Just look at Portugal, which has legalized drugs for over a decade and has a lower drug use rate than America, without the worlds highest percentage of citizens in prison.

The topic of corruption is like cryptonite, why is that? Are there any police who have not abused their authority? Is it systemic? "oh, but I only break minor laws, nothing real" type of dirty cop entitlement? Does every cop have dirt on another cop, is that the reasoning behind the status quo? "I let you get away with it, so you have to let me"?

The corruption never goes away. It is reported on every single day. There is a reason fellow officers don't turn each other in, one nobody here is willing to admit. It's sad, really.

People work a job they could be proud of, yet ruin it by corrupting themselves.

Ah well. It's pointless watching people dance around a real issue. I guess avoiding a direct answer is the answer.

How about cops who like to beat women? Even if the police apologists could justify the first time this handcuffed woman was thrown to the ground ...... because she exited her vehicle, lets hear the excuses for the second time and then the 'fist bump' afterward.

If this were your wife??

Obviously, these officers had no idea the whole thing was caught on camera.

Very commendable the LAPD took this action. They are also to be congratulated for the actions taken against the supervisor. In all likeihood all involved will be fired. Now since this thread was started approximately eight (8) police officer have been killed. Several other have been seriously injuried. How many of the people who injured the Police Officers have been fired? (Hopefully those whom killed a Police Officer were arrested) How many of the individuals who injured a Police Officer had their work/job supervisor fired over the injury to the Police Officer? How many of the individuals who killed a Police Officer had their work/job supervisor called in and dismissed because an employee who worked under his/her supervison acted improper?

If anyone has the answer to the questions please post and share. It should make for some interesting reading.

Has it become acceptable in society today to kill, maim and injury those in law enforcement, simply because they wear a uniform. Think of your job profession when will this same mentality invade it. Or maybe it has already after thinking about the news articles that have been appearing in the paper lately.
