My advice is to spend the extra 50/60 bucks and go to an appliance shop that services what they sell in house.

Which is what we did. Twice. Unfortunately, the first store back in the city was closing when bought our first Maytag. When we built our house in the country, we bought from another local Maytag dealer but he just closed the store and retired. The only source of appliances we have is Lowes or drive to a nearby city for another Lowes, Sears, HD, etc.

I think one has to be careful buying foreign brands because of service and parts. Having said that, our Maytag fridge had issues with its compressor. I caught it before failure but it took over a week to get the part to our house which was not acceptable. Many people were complaining that it took WEEKS to get a compressor to fix a dead fridge. Our store said if the fridge failed they would bring us a loaner to use until the old one was fixed. One is not going to get the kind of service from Lowes but Lowes is all we have now.

Thus began a year long saga, between us Lowe's,Samsung, and A&E Appliance.

I agree about buying from a place that services what they sell. But did you know that A&E is simply another name for Sears? I have a Whirlpool window unit air-conditioner with heat strip in my shop/recreation room that I bought from Lowes. It was long out of warranty when the heating quit working, so I called Whirlpool and they made an appointment for A&E to come fix it. Yep, same phone number, address, etc. of the Sears Service Center. The guy told me that they sometimes go to Lowes, Home Depot, etc. to work on appliances and those stores didn't really want a Sears Service van being seen by their customers, so they created A&E. Now it wasn't cheap, but he did do a good job of fixing the air-conditioner, and then later Sears sold me an extended warranty on the unit.

I bought a new Bosch for our house then we moved into a new house that had a new GE dishwasher. The old house wasn't sold yet so I went and took the new GE to the old house and brought the Bosch to the new house. That was 10 years ago. Only problem was a rubber seal recall which they sent out a service guy to replace.
It's quiet, has delay, and never had a dirty pot or dish when it's done.

I think you best bet would be consumer reports rather than a tractor forum, its my go to unless we talk tractors and how-toos of course.

Yes, I don't really trust CU and take what they say with a box of salt. CU is helpful on getting specs and maybe reviews... There ratings can be iffy. Back in the 80s I was looking to buy a car and checked CU's ratings. What was funny was that the Eagle, Chrysler and Mitsibushi sold the same car that was made in the same factory in Normal, IL. The ratings for the "Japanese" care were MUCH higher than the "American" car. The only difference between the cars was the badges.

Our old Sears Kenmore Dishwasher finally quit. It lasted 23 years. Other than one warranteed small problem, it ran trouble free for 22 years.

I like Whirlpool products and am looking at a new Whirlpool at Lowes. It got good reviews, but one of the negatives is a Long Cycle time. It seems like it takes a little over 2 hours to cycle through.

My question is, what is the normal cycle times for Dishwahers these days. Is 2-plus hours a lot compared to others?

It has a 1-hour reduced cycle selection, but one of the reviews stated that it didn't clean good enough this way.

Any info would be appreciated.

Bill

I may be too late, as you may have settled this already.

Our Kenmore died Jan '11.

After researching back then, I came to the conclusion I wanted another Kenmore. We got a Kenmore Elite, here's the link: Kenmore Elite 24" Built-In Dishwasher w/ 360ー PowerWash Technology - Black ENERGY STAR? - Appliances - Dishwashers - Built-In Dishwashers

It has been great.

Notes:

To make it even more silent, I removed the insulation from the old kenmore, and added it to this one. It barely makes a sound :D

And, read the manual. It is counter intuitive... but the longer the wash, the less water and electricity it uses. I know that sounds bassackwards... but it is totally true! The quick 1 hour wash uses twice the water and tons more electricity.

Hope you make a good choice.

The folks on TBN have tons of "real world" knowledge on a wide range of topics. I trust that more than some magazine editor who compiles data and pretends to be the expert

Yep, 30 years ago I dropped my subscription after realizing how ridiculous some of their ratings were. If you were going to use any of their information at all, you definitely needed to read the entire relevant article to see what they based their ratings on. For example: they compared some walk behind lawnmowers and rated the Lawnboy with the 2 cycle engine very low because it didn't have the power of a 4 cycle Briggs engine in knee deep grass. Of course, I didn't let my lawn get knee deep, and the Lawnboy was the best, more reliable, easiest starting, longest lasting lawnmower I ever used or owned. And when they compared the compact Oldsmobile, a Toyota, and the Isuzu I-mark sedan, the first 2 were gasoline engines and the Isuzu was a diesel. And in the first paragraph, the author admitted that he didn't like diesel cars unless it said Mercedes on it. In their survey (and I was one of those surveyed), the Isuzu owners were the most satisfied, and had the fewest problems, but CU rated the Isuzu last, and of course the Toyota as best (they spent years doing everything they could to sell Toyotas, and no way could I believe they were unbiased). And then of course they killed the Suzuki Samurai. That got lots of publicity because it could turn over. Of course Suzuki had stickers on the dash and on the driver's door telling you it would handle differently. There was nothing unusually dangerous about them. And after they killed the Suzuki, they admitted that while it would turn over, it wouldn't turn over as easily as a Ford Bronco, but that never got nearly as much publicity.
