Thats pretty big! Are you filling it solid as well? And issues with cracking while it dries?

We filled the holes that we put rebar in (about every 4 foot). There shouldn't be any issues with cracking as it dries because the footing is really solid and shouldn't shift. We dry stacked blocks inside the colums to hold up the rock cap that the brick man will install.

Not too much new to report. We made a template of the gate out of 2 X 6 and dropped it off at a local metal fab shop for them to build the gates. Each gate should weigh around 400-500 lbs each so we purchased the 3000 lb Elite power hinges so there won't be any sag or trouble later on. I'll post pictures of the gate once I pick it up from the fab shop.

I haven't forgotten about you guys. I'm just waiting for the welding shop to finish the gate. I'll post pictures when i pick it up.
The brick man should be out in a few weeks to do the brick.

Sorry I've not posted in a few months. I was working out of town last month and just started a new job last week. We got the gates back from the fab shop and painted them with POR-15 paint so it shouldn't ever rust. If you remember, we made a template for the two gates with 2"x6"s and gussets to hold them together. After several measurements for the gate width to include the hinge width and 1/2" gap needed in the center for hardware/electric door closure, we ended up with exactly the 1/2" gap that we needed. The gate is made out of 2"x6" tubing and boy are they heavy. I would say each gate is 300-400 lbs each which, along with the openness of the gate should help fight the crazy Kansas wind that we have. The hinges are rated to 3000 lbs/pair so we shouldn't have a problem. We ordered the bricks 5 weeks ago and they are suppose to arrive tomorrow so the rest is up to the brick man to install. On the end columns, we have power installed in conduit for lamps. I'll post a picture of them later. All-in-all, I think it turned out great. We will probably do the gate opener next spring as we are about tapped in the funds department at the moment.

Tell me what you think.
