If at all possible, you should fill those tires. The weight of the filled tires really stabilizes the tractor. You cannot put ballast any lower then the tires.
Agree. Bolt-on ballast does little to lower the center of gravity (COG) below the axle, and is typically limited to a weight that is user-manageable. Riding mowers and garden tractors come to mind. A 70% fill of liquid tire ballast on the other hand - on CUTs and larger - is almost always heavier than wheel weights AND is more likely to lower the COG. I distributed almost half a ton of RimGuard around the 4 corners of my 3720. If money is no object, wheel weights PLUS liquid ballast is an excellent combination.

I appreciate all the input from so many members. It has been a great help. I will for sure look into the rimguard suggestion.

On the "feels tippy" vs. "is tippy" deal, I'm only concerned with the physical limits of the machine. The slanted feeling does not bother me, I cut my teeth farming sidehills in the glacial moraines of southern WI as a kid, and have operated machinery my whole life. I actually just got out of a 9270 CASE-IH about a half-hour ago after ditching fields all afternoon.

Right now I am looking at a used 3520 Cab, new L3800, and a used DX35, and your input has convinced me that the 3520 cab would work satisfactorily for my uses if I can get the dealer where I want him on price.

Thanks for all the input! I've made my determination on fitness for my application but am still open to more input and discussion.

Guys, keep it friendly. While one persons experience may not be entirely applicable, they usually have some value.

If it helps, I got my 3720 cab (new) for $36k. Price included R4 upgrade, 300x loader, 4-in-1 bucket, and ballast box w/extensions. I've since decided the standard seat suspension was inadequate, and upgraded to the air suspension. I also concluded that the ballast box extensions were not necessary. Maybe for the 4x20 series, but not for the 3x20 series.

I used to be a heavy equipment operator for a large mass excavation company and I operated large dozers and hang on slopes very steep so I'm used to sitting high and not being scared.

Thanks for adding that tidbit about your professional experience. Insights like that help people judge how other's opinions are formed and how much merit one should give to an opinion. In this case it gave your post much credibility to me at least. Thanks

Thanks for the input Roy. I've been serious considering getting them filled.

Mine is on CUTs, which I hope is demonstrated by over 10 years and 5000+ posts here.

Greg don't take this the wrong way but I could care less about the number of posts someone has. If you think about the statistic it is meaningless because all this is really saying is that the user has a lot of time they can dedicate to sitting on forums and actually says nothing about their knowledge of any subject.

Too late. "Wrong" is clearly in the eye of the beholder. Given that this is your one and only contribution to this thread, I take it as insulting. I don't know what's so difficult about simply accepting the stated of experience of other members. You may have a different opinion, you may state contrary experience. But it's beyond rude to to call into question knowledge and experience that you have not yet demonstrated yourself.

Why do you get so "worked up"? Just because someone does not agree with your opinion, or accept it as fact, is no reason to be insulted.

The 3x20 does feel tippy when you first get on them. They sit up high for the narrow stance. After about 100 hours of operating on unlevel ground I became accustomed to it. I won't ad anything else to this except that the 3x20 tractors are very capable machines.......and I have worked one like a dog logging on some pretty rugged terrain here in WV.
