I have noticed more of our southern white wings wintering here over the last 6 years, have y'all? They almost appears as large as pigeons.

BTW, It just started to rain here again, 0% chance:D

Which dove is it that has a white tail, fanned out wide as it'd flying straight away from you?

And Dennis, NWS has been forecasting a 20% chance for Denton, then they took it out of the forecast, and now it's raining just south of us. Sure hope a little of it gets up here. Day before yesterday, the Denton airport for .27" and I got .02".:D But I'm gratefull for even that.

Bird, the white wind dove has a large white patch on the wings, very visible when they fly, also about twice the size of a Morning dove.

Rains appears over, 2/10's, but refreshing. temps dropped to 75*

Dennis, I feel sure I don't have any white winged doves, but I have a book, A Guide to Field Identification; Birds of North America, and I don't find a picture that looks right. I'd say for the most part, I just have Mourning Doves, but I definitely have some different sizes, including one with a white tail (no white on the wings) that shows as hit flies away from me.

And I'm sure jealous of the rain.

Bird, I only see them here around late Nov-March, Odd thing is most migrating doves go south, allot go as far as South America. The white wing is from southern Texas, so it seems odd that some seem to travel North? I know one thing, they eat whole corn as well as a turkey!!

Maybe a spanish dove? smaller and some have a few vertical feathers in their tail.

I was on the phone with the wife last night, she said it was "muggy" and hot still, I thought I had heard there was a "cool" front moving down. Its 41 Degrees here in Alamosa CO. A bit cool when working at night, but nice not dealing with the humidity. Wife say's she has had to start watering my Watermelons and the St. Augustine again, shouldn't be long though, till the grass slows down.

Yep, Dennis, it was 100 degrees here yesterday afternoon and supposed to be the same today, then 99 to 97 for a couple of days and only 87 Saturday. I guess we can look forward to Saturday. And my yard definitely needs watering, but after water bills of $191 and $188 the last 2 months, I'm not sure I'm going to water it.

Ouch! that's a hefty "fine" for making your yard look "purdy" Bird. To bad you cant bale it to recover some of that bill:D I told my wife she can let the grass go, I want it a little tall going through winter, worked great last year so far as wear is concerned. Some of my St Augustine even stayed green through the mild winter, the parts that had a leaf covering anyway.

I got to slow down on watering for awhile, but I've been watering heavily about every 3rd day since all these last rain storms passed us by.:( I pumped the water out of my small pond into my larger pond. The water came several weeks ago and needed removal so I can get back in a finish my clay lining project. I expect to be caught by a big September rain and I'm not ready for that yet. I'll sure be happy to see some cooler weather this weekend that will come with a 30% chance of showers.
