Dennis,
I am just getting enough rain to "set and grow" the $90 of bermuda grass seed I put out. I put it out two weeks ago and now it is so green in spots, I don't have to lean over and squint my eyes to see it. We got 7/8th inch today or last night. We saw plenty of rain puddles on the roadway between Austin and home this afternoon.
I guess I need to get some cheap grass seed to get grass growing down in the pond basin, so I won't get silting so bad. Any ideas, Y'all, on a cheap fast growing grass seed, that does not need to be disced under? Too soon for rye grass, or I would use that.
hugs, Brandi

I'd go ahead with the rye grass..even though its early, I would think it would at least germinate, grow and establish a root to help out.

I agree with BR, other option may be feed oats or some other grain. I wonder what all the "green" will do to the water quality when it floods enough though, probably not an issue. That 7/8ths should do wonders on the Bermuda! sure plenty warm enough for it too....

Thanks Guys! I'll get some rye grass seed this week and spread it out. Though if we get a big rain, it will wash down the slopes. Worth a try!

Brandi, you might throw some straw or light mulch of some kind over the seed, may help hold the seed in place and protect the ground from the higher temps.

It would be nice to have a 10 foot disc with wheels (non 3PH) and that Bobcat again to pull the disc across the dam's slopes.
I'll check at my favorite feed and seed store tomorrow, on seed, to see if it is too early to stick under some straw.
hugs, Brandi

Got another 1/2" of rain overnight and it's still showering lightly from time-to-time this morning. My lawn may be the best it has ever been.

I heard we had some rain at the house too, if we did most of it probably went into the creek. I mowed the lawn the day before the last rain, took awhile since I had to sit down frequently, but I got it done. The day after the rain, I could already see new growth since my St Augustine seems to grow faster than the Hybrid Bermuda. Either that or my grass prefers rain water over the well water.

Dennis, the NWS shows the official rainfall today at the Denton airport was .06", but I think my gauge got .08". We had mist to a light sprinkle nearly all morning, but the cool, damp weather sure felt good anyway. That last rain made my St. Augustine perk up, too, so I mowed yesterday.

Wow! It's 60 F here this morning and foggy with a huge dew on the grass. This is just not right for August.:confused2: Maybe those Mayans were onto something. ;) :D
