Based on the 5379 posts made between 8/24/2012 18:24:00 and 8/29/2012 10:22:00 (an average of 48.202 posts per hour) I suspect that the 3 millionth posts will be made on 9/28/2012 at 1:06:25 and it will have the post ID of 3014476.
If that happens, catdozer will be the closest, followed by me and Martian

By my calculations, you will have to get people to drop their posting rate down to about 42.654 posts per hour in order for the 3 millionth post to occur closest to your guess of 10/1/2012 at 21:33:00.

The "post count on the main index" is total number of posts - deleted posts as deleting a post does not remove that post ID from the system. As of 10:22 eastern today there were 14476 deleted posts (2965741 posts on the "Main Index" when the latest post ID was 2980217)

Starting to look like my guess of 9/20/12 is going to pass by and take at least a week longer. O, well maybe I will live long enough to try to guess the date and time for the 4 millionth post.

Excellet explination. As I mentioned earlier, I forgot to account for deleted posts. So my guess is going to be off by ~14,400 posts. And at approx a 1200 post/day average, that would account for about 12 days. Wihich would have made my guess of 9/15 pretty close
