Wow. Again excellent and very useful data fellas. I'm looking forward to putting the tractor to work on our new place. Actually it is a very old place, but I sure hope to breath new life into it. I'm counting on our Yanmar to help me with that. Most of the lot is wooded so I don't see needing a mower after I get the garden area in order. At least not on a recurring basis. Have been offered the use of a small mower but I'd rather rent one if possible. I don't like using friends tools. Rather keep it a business arrangement. I assume one can rent implements right?

BTW I want to replace the little rubber grease boots on the steering joints. There are 4 of them, one on each end of the tie-rod, and one on each end of the steering control rod. The exploded view in my I&T shop manual which covers the model 330 (I hear it is close to the 3130) does not show them. I know I can just call Hoye and they can help me but I thought maybe they might be generic and I could get them locally.

After the fuel line leaked I looked a little closer at the rubber fittings on the tractor in case there were other "rotten" ones. The little grease boots are the only other thing I found.

Anyways, thanks again for all the help and encouragement.

edit: The Nebraska tests are imho worthless as far as determining real world tractor performance a pulling sled will do the same thing-tell you nothing about the garden or field. ymmv as always

The main benefit I see is the solid and legitimate data on engine power, fuel consumption, and the actual bare weights of the tractors. I wish this information was still produced for more recent machines. There is, apparently, an agency in Japan that does the same thing. I wish I knew if those tests were available. It would be interesting to read, and provide a good baseline of comparison with other machines, too.

So, how come it's got a John Deer name badge on it. You do that? lol

You will see the answer in another thread he started about how to buy a Yanmar fyi. Its rather poetic I think since Yanmar has been powering JD cut and mowers since the 80's.

All you can do is take one to the auto parts store or even a tractor dealer and see if they can match something up. We used to replace them but now we just put all new ball joints on. So at one time they were available is all I can say for sure. hth

Honestly unless you live in a bigger city (and then may not be worth fighting across town) and have places at your disposal (going in autozone unless there not very busy wont help you much) its going to be just easier to order the stuff from Hoye. I know $14 shipping is huge for a few rubber boots but hey you dont have to drive all over and spend a half hour at the parts counter. Just log on and click the parts you need and they arrive at your door in 3 days.

If you plan on keeping the tractor you may as well buy the oil filters at this time and anything else you want to do to it, like fuel filters, air filter etc, the shipping even if you get all this will still be less than $15 i think.

The rubber boots for the steering rod / arm will have to come from JD dealer. The tie rod boots you can get after market. LMTC, Hoye, Fredricks, etc,

Dont tell the JD dealer its a yanmar! esp a grey, you may not get your parts.

You know, I've never had a problem with the JD dealer in my area. I tell them what I have and they ask what is the cloest Deere mod . I tell them it's close to a 950. They say no problem I'll have the parts in 2 weeks unless ,I want to pay for faster shipping. They have been very helpfull to me ! All JD Dealers may not be that way. Proceed with caution !
