3t84t is what my engine plate says like has been mentioned is the 3810 engine. The cyl head casting number is 3t90t and can be seen on top of the head by the intake manifold.

My transmission has cast in 3810 as well. I believe the serial number starts or has in it 3810 so its my suspicion there may have been a factory change or over run etc on this unit. I would think grinding serial numbers off is a no-no everywhere in the world just talking out loud?

I have heard some variations in engine serial numbers on various YM's but so far I done believe anyone had deciphered them so all we can do is keep documenting them and eventually we may have answers as far as what H and N means. These are 2 recent variations that come to mind.

I thought N was Normally Aspirated?

That is what I would imagine also by our std of abbreviation anyway. Like we presume the T is turbo and that one seems probably true so far, as for the H it is an unknown at this point that I am aware of anyway. Maybe Kenmac will chime in w/his number sequence?

Here is something to think of. My YM2000 on the tag say 24HP @2400rpms. Was looking at a friends 2210BD and his only has 22PTO @ 2200 rpm or something? Then a bunch of japaneese??

I mean mine has japaneese but also american writing, his just the PTO HP is in american?

US version Yanmars were marketed using US-style horsepower advertising. This is the power that a naked engine on a test stand outputs to the dyno. In the past US autos measured this way didn't even include the power for the fan, waterpump or alternator in this gross horsepower figure. Apparently those accesories were powered by the test stand, not by the engine. US tractor marketing is similar but I assume it is the output of an engine that is turning its own accessories.

Japanese marketing uses the HP sent out the PTO to the dyno. I assume this is because any tiller sold there will have a 'horsepower required' rating so that's what the farmer is shopping for.

I think in both cases the rating is what the tractor can put out continuous, 24/7, without overheating or shortening its life expectancy. For example if the PTO is pushing the constant load of a ditch pump. Our own use of these tractors is usually far less stress than that.

I know what you have stated california, thats why the Grey version is 2000 for 20 HP at the PTO and the american version is 240 for 24 engine HP. Dont know why the extra "0" on greys though? I guess its so they could do the variations latter like 2001 2002 etc??

But my tractor is a Grey ym2000 and it says 24 hp on the engine tag??

Strange. Does the engine number stamped near the starter start with 2TR20 (early), 2TR20A (Normal YM2000 I think) or 2TR20A-X? -X is what's on the later YM240. I don't know about early YM240.

not sure? I just took it back to the farm this weekend and left it there. I ll try and rummage my pics, i think i have a pic of the engine tag somewhere? Its the correct engine for a ym2000 i looked that up before, its the 2TR20A i think?

I should say that my tag says 24 HP @ 2400 RPM.
