windows update is on, and updates are up to date.
2 drivers associated with the dvd rom have been affected by malware.. one was isolated , one was deleted.

There was a snafu a few years ago, so they extended their update operation for XP... But (I could be wrong), I don't think they r updating XP or older, currently. i originally had it in my opening post but must have lost it on an edit.
yep.. xp is mostly unsupported. sp3 came out and there was some revived support for netbooks.. but that's about it..

Actually, Vista home is available as a 64 or 32 bit. See Download - Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Official ISO's Downloads | Fix It WizKid - Free computer support forum and chat. for a place to download the parts needed to burn a install DVD. Alternatively, you can buy a DVD on ebay for about $20.
If you were closer, I have one somewhere that I could dig up and lend you.
XP will be supported (for security fixes) until April 2014 as shown at: Microsoft Product Lifecycle Search.
Vista will (currently) be supported until April 2017 OR 24 months after the last service pack (whichever comes first) per: Microsoft Product Lifecycle Search
