I had the same problem on my ym165d.I ended up pulling the radiator, and took to radiator shop and had it cored out soaked repaired, and painted for $90. Its like brand new.I did get a new cap from Hoyle.I did read here not to long ago that the new radiators don't have the clips for the screen. Pete

The replacement i got is china made. Its all metal construction. I think i had to wedge in the fan shroud, but thinking it was tight before, but in my mind seems like the fan shroud sat back farter as the radiator may have sat 1/4" closer to the fan? Other than that it was a pretty good fit. You use your mounting bolts, oh the screen does not fit as well as the original, the clamps are not as good and it kind of sits there unlike the old one thats more in a track.

I'm wondering if a radiator would have to be the same in size and capacity? I remember having an old radiator left over from when I converted my '66 mustang 6 cyl. to a v/8 having to use a v/8 radiator, I still have the smaller 6-cyl radiator in very good to like new condition, although in comparison to size the radiator is about 3" wider and 1" taller, the inlet & outlet are close to the correct location, how ever to use it I would have to remove the side hood covers from the tractor and most likely change the rubber hoses, thinking on it though Not sure I would want to do this... perhaps I can sell the mustang radiator to help fund the repair on the tractors one, anyone need a good '66 mustang 6 cyl radiator? real cheap!;)...... But the question still open for an answer...... should a radiator be of the same capacity? or could a larger thicker one that would hold more liquid be used? would it be more beneficial to the tractors cooling system? or would it cause a problem with circulating the fluid,.... just thinking out loud , if one were to have a custom rad built...might as well build it larger and better, right! with all I have done to my tractor it's obvious I'm not out for keeping it original,:D

Good question and in my case there wasn't any extra room. I wanted my radiator shop to re-core mine with an extra row of tubes and a longer core but there wasn't enough room. Yes is the answer but will you have the room?

They told me they had a special fin or tube (dont remember which think tube?) that effectively added 25-30% to the cooling capacity and that could help but I never did anything just left as is and its ok I think its undersized but it works.

If its to big you wont warm up in cold weather, as there is no thermostat, right? Well as long as your just putting around.

Also after replacing and pulling mine a few times there is no way a mustang larger radiator will fit. You will ahve to leave the fan shroud out totally and be way close to the core of it. Also if yours is like mine with the tiny drain tube in the bottom you will have to plug that device on the radiator side of it. This is used to drain the block and the radiator.

Seriously at least take it to be rebuilt! Dont hack it up and try to make something fit. this thing seems to have such close tollerances i dont think you will find anything that will work.

Ebay is about $280+$30 shipping. Hoye is $285 + shipping, not sure if its still the $15 cost in that size box or not?

This is true, but you could partially block off the air, and then if one side got plugged you could remove the blocking plate for emergency cooling. Jus a thought here, I think fixing the old one is the best idea. These plastic tank radiators fail to easily.

I decided after all the trouble I went through to remove the thing, having to take half the tractor apart and that darn bottom hose clamp is a booger with the shroud being in the way on that corner, plus me having a FEL on the tractor didn't make it any easier to reach, why should I carry it to a shop and let them make the easy money:cool: so! I got the thing out and once again attempt to do the repair, this time I can see all area's of the radiator, I cleaned and flushed it good, wired wheel the paint off, ( looks so clean and shiny almost didn't want to re-paint it):D but I did, I melt away the old solder and re-apply new all around the seams & and filler neck, I had no way of plugging the inlet holes to check for leeks, so I'm keeping fingers crossed, after some bloody knuckles from the cabbage grader the radiator is in place with hoses attached, I still have to reassemble the tractor:cool: and fill the radiator with mix, I hope all my effort will be rewarding when saving some $$$,
