I always thought a Jeep with a snow blade would be the best vehicle for moving snow because of its ability to manuver in tight quarters. But all I ever see are pick-ups, and some of them get pretty long, like the one tons with 4 doors and an 8 foot box!

Is it simply a matter of using what you have or are the Jeeps just not strong enough to handle the abuse?

Big tiller, years ago when I was going to college I used a Jeep CJ with a plow to plow snow in Northern Illinois...we did parking lots and driveways....commercial stuff..the jeeps worked fine and I even had a 2 wheel drive International Harvester ( like todays SUV ) with chains and a plow that also did great...we had many 12 " plus snow falls...

I have plowed with both jeeps and trucks. The jeep does great for tight quarters and such. Never had a problem with damage to it.

One thing to keep in mind as to why you see the pick-ups is that they use the truck for other things in the off-season and in the winter you can outfit them with salt spreaders.

I run a 95 YJ Wrangler.. Last year of the leaf spring front end jeeps. 4.0 liter, 5 speed, with a Blizzard 760 speedwing... it is alot more plow than most will run on anything less than a half ton truck.. The plow contains alot of snow since the wings default in the scoop position.. I will put my Jeep against any truck with an 8 ' plow anyday of the week and guarantee it will out plow it. Maneuverability is 2nd to none on it ! I do run about #600 ballast in the back of it, because it will come light on weight pushing heavy or deep snow.Maybe I can find a picture or 2 of it

Picks of the jeep with the 760 speedwing 7'6" in scoop 8' with the wings pinned back in the straight position.

Here ya go - the best of both worlds....

Decision on a Jeep pickup coming soon, truck could come on Wrangler or Fiat platform

I always plowed with a Dodge Power Wagon called a SNO FITER...not a typo that's what they called it. That thing plowed like a tank, i had a stick shift and I never could kill that thing. I plowed some times 24 hr a day, only taking naps with my head on the steering wheel in the middle of a large parking lot in the middle of a storm . You had to make it while it snowed.

Here's picture of what she looked like same color and all.

I was only 18 when my parents signed for a new truck and plow. Then came Nov. Dec. and not a snow flake in sight. They were great, they never gave me the " I told you so" look.

The first snow fall lasted a week. At the end of the week i dumped enough cash out of every pocked from my pants and jacket enough to pay for the truck 100%.

I like the pick up because I could load the back with bags of rock salt for weight, plus I gave it away to my customers.

I drove that beast hard and never spent a dime on repairs. They don't make em like that any more.

Do you think maneuverability trumps the lack of weight? I would not like to add and remove 600 pounds of ballast by hand everytime I needed to move snow.

No. I am running a plow that's alot bigger than the jeep should be carrying, If you went with a 6 1/2 ' blade you would not need that much ballast. I don't have any family so Losing the back seat isn't an issue for me anyway.. Plus its not my only plow truck.. I do have full sized trucks as well..

Best plow vechicle I owned was a 1976 CJ5 with a 6 1/2 ft meyers power angle blade and a 3 speed trans. Very manuverable and so simple to shift foward and back with shifter. I had 5 plow vechicles at the time 2 CJ5's 1 full size blazer 1 International scout and a3/4 ton dodge power wagon. did a lot of commercial lots and residental drive too. All of my drivers wanted my CJ5 with the 3 speed!!!!!!!! JUST SAYIN'
