yeah ok "lakeville" than you say you blame it on the caffeine. you dont know what the **** your talking about. Bushmaster is just as reputable as any other ar manufacturer. I have 2 ar's from bushmaster from the past 12 years and a recently purchased .50bmg (BA50) which cost 5000 dollars. All are flawless weapons. So big deal something happened at the range. Too many factors to factor in. There have been numerous amounts of colt malfunctions too. Bushmaster wasnt there and they dont have all the evidence and facts so why should they do anything.I guess bushmaster should just trust ole' Skip becuase he teaches gun saftey. Thats like saying we should rely on the police to know all the laws. So dont go spewing nonsense rumors especially if you dont know your a-hole from your elbow with guns.

And you sir, are the reason this was posted in the sanity of tractorbynet instead of in a useless AR forum.... You know, the places where guys like you hang out in their gun laden basements, spewing arrogance and ignorance, instead of getting out in the daylight to learn valuable things? Things like "people skills" and "women"? (I bring that up, because anyone who can spend 5k on a rifle that runs more than 5.00 a trigger pull..... Has not discovered women.)

Rumors? I have said no rumors. I have stated that this gun was being fed Lake City (because they are a trusted manufacturer) and it went kaboom. Bushmaster (or whatever name it is they are succumbing under) will not even talk with the owner of THEIR product. As my mentor, I trust his maintenance skills and schedules. I'd like to have a dollar for every time he has told me I need the carbon removal tool for the back of the bolt. Is this gun cleaned to the standards he has imposed upon me? I have no idea, I am not his babysitter.

Not my gun, but CurlyDave voices a large amount of sanity in the post after this one. Why spend thousands on a lawyer for a thousand dollar gun? The next step will probably be a registered letter to the guns birth place, in tandem with posts like this and letters to magazines.

Bottom line? You gun god "Bushmaster" is making NO attempt to back up its golden (or should I say "a boat anchor with their golden name on it") product. If they inspected the unit and faulted the ammo from a trusted supplier, and then THEY refused to talk, this would be a Lake Town rant instead of Bushmaster. If this was a 50.00 Mosin Nagant, I would not be having this conversation with a hermit.

Have a nice day. :)

No discouragement here, that was a nice chance to brighten my day. As a matter of fact, ST marveled me with his wise words and I took some time to peruse the internet for more of his divine knowledge to grow my unedumahkated craykneeum. After coming across this gem, I am headed out to find my next shooty thingy that will not blow up when it is fed Pond Villa ammo.

Did i understand this correctly. A round went off in chamber. Causing the bolt 'explode' to Which caused a round in the mag to go off? How is that possible? Would/ could the schrapnal from the bolt rupture the case, exploding the powder pushing out the bullet and primer?

I have an understanding of how an ar works but im lost here...

Quite simply, it fired out of battery. If maintenance was not the cause, it is the ammo's fault. Why ATK/Federal hasn't been notified is a mystery.

This is sounding more and more ammo related. I know it's a little late now, but does he have the ammo box? Federal would want the lot number, off the box as well as any other rounds from that box. They load by velocity, and change powders from time to time. (At least they used to.) So charge weight can change, lot to lot.
It's not unheard of for ammo mfg. to release some overloaded rounds. I'm sure everyone has seen recall notices for ammo.
Your friend should talk to Federal about his rifle. I'm sure they will want the lot number of the ammo, so they can pull any remaing rounds from dealer stock, and prevent any other injuries.

This is an example. http://www.federalpremium.com/pdf/45_Auto_warning.pdf
