Need Help in finding part at a salvage yard (Power Steering Cyl. for my 4500)

I desperately need to find this part used. Mine broke & the dealer can only sell a new assembly (can't get internal parts to rebuild). Part cost is $951 (plus another $80 for an inner tie rod end).

Anyone know of a used JD parts salvage yard? I called up all the ones I could find on the web & no one has this part.

Please help if you can!

Not sure where you are located, but often a hydraulic shop can cross reference seals or build a new rod as needed. What exactly broke on it?
For parts, I would check with Wengers: Wengers Of Myerstown - Farm Equipment, Agriculture Equipment, Tractor Parts, Construction Equipment, Construction Parts none listed as in stock, but they might know where you can find one.

The main rod in the cylinder. This is the rod that connects to the tie rod end & comes out of the cylinder. It's a pretty beefy rod - approx. 1.1" in dia & hard coated (black finish, lloks nitrided). It is my understading that there are some special components to this hydraulic assembly that only JD has.

Did the tie rod break off? If your tractor is this one: OEM Parts what is the part number on the cylinder? Is it the superseded LVA13561/LVA14158 one, or the current M138035 one?
It looks like it shares the M138035t cylinder with the 3203, 3120, 4210, 4505 and the 4510.

Do you need part# AM128370? There are i think two or three different steering setups on the 4500, 4600 and 4700 tractors.

That is whats known as a John Deere exclusive. They spec their parts so the average shop will not stock or be able to order certain replacement parts. They like their parts departments to be visited often. Don't look for the sale, even with an ocasional 10% off they do well for themselves.

Still yet I wonder if he can find a non-JD cylinder much cheaper that will be as good? Paint it green and your good to go.

Yeah so I've heard. But really when we had a Deere the everyday stuff, filters and such weren't bad.

Are any other brands any different though? I bet if I broke the steering cylinder on my Kubota I'd be in the same boat.
