Most of the fabric & frame type portable garages I see don't look at all stable enough to support a decent wet snowfall. Does anyone know of a model that's sturdy enough for a typical Northeast winter season? Not crazy about the metal ones I've seen, but willing to consider anything.

FYI - I had one - garbage with snow. it was the roof shaped one from TSC. The ones I see that seems to last more then a year are the round ones.

My neighbor has had one for years with a ton of snow, but it is the round style, not the flatter top.

Do you happen to know the manufacturer?

Shelter logic IIRC.....I just got one myself based off his experience actually, but cannot comment on snow yet obviously!

My Shelter-Logic has been up for more than a year. It's handled snow and a hurricane in that time but you need to keep the cover tight and really well anchored down and it will give you years of reliable service.

I can agree with the low peak style roof not holding up well to snow, I put strips of wood about 1/4 - 3/8 inch thick by 3 - 4 inches wide over the top of the pipe beams so the fabric would not sag with the snow. It helped but I had to brush the snow off regularly. I decided to move my shed, I had it secured with 1/2 rebar driven 3-4 feet in the ground, but once the wind got under it. Well lets just say they make great kites, but when they come back to earth they don't hold there shape well, the word pancake comes to mind. I have since moved on to a more permanent structure, can't complain it lasted 3 years and cost less than $150 to house the tractor for that time. They do have there uses, with limitations.

Thanks. My nephew said that's what he has as well and it's lasted over a couple of winters so far.

Yeah, what concerns me is a wet/heavy snowfall when I'm not around to keep it cleaned off.

I do plan to build a "real" garage next year, but thought perhaps one of these things would get me though this coming winter. Of course, given my luck I'll buy one, set it up-- and we won't get any snow! But heyyyyy... now that I think of it that wouldn't be so bad either. :)

I have had a HF 12x16 now for 3 winters, and put a wood floor I built into it to keep it from blowing away, as I park the tractor on top of that. But every time it snows, I grab the broom that I keep in it, and knock the snow off the top, sometimes once or twice a day when it snows. If I want to build the same size "stick built" it would require a building permit, and that has become such a painful process, the even for that sized building, would need a septic inspection (500 bucks).
