I have had 2 instances of engines running backwards that I had to shut off. I was a 350hp detroit diesel and the other was a 300hp Mack, Maybe 5 seconds max on both. Both in trucks and the slobberbox [detroit] was in deep sand and the Mack was running winches. No damage to either engine and no Hydraulics involved. I can't wrap my mind around how the hydraulics functioned backwards for him on the ground drives. The charge pumps are not birotational so nothing should have worked when the diesel was running backwards including the engine oil pump. If it was indeed running backwards for almost a minute then that would not be a good thing. CJ

Thanks for all the ideas I went out the machine today 2 days later to turn it over to see how it was turning and the machine turned over and started immediately running fine and all controls working properly. Any ideas ideas on the cause would be greatly appreciated dont know if this could be a recurring issue and if so can it be prevented???

Don't load the engine to the point of stalling.

When engine starts to load heavy, reduce stroke on the steering levers. More lever stroke is faster speed with less engine torque to wheels (more engine load). Less lever lever stroke is higher drive torque with slower speed.
