Any can do that.
The challenge with fuel economy is how often you tow. If you have a small trailer and pull a zero turn or light machinery just locally, you might even get by with a V6 if fuel mileage is more of a priority. But I think most of us would either want
a small V8 or the Ecoboost to get the torque needed. And remember, fuel mileage is relative. I got 16 with my V6 Nissan Frontier, the Ecoboost gets 15-16 from what I've read, and my guzzler Suburban with a 6.0 gets 12.
I think 20mpg trucks are coming but if you want to tow, I don't think they are here yet. The Ecoboost is probably the best compromise now but I think real world gas mileage is lower than the ads. But if you want to pull one of your tractors around, you need a whole lot more than 5K towing with implements attached and trailer weight, plus giving you some capacity left for safety.
