Last one I had was a 2001 F250
Murphy, don't end up like many people I know. If they had a particular issue from years past, they will not even consider that make ever again. My father in law was told by his mechanic in the 80's that brand x had bad transmissions. Guess what, he doesn't even test drive that brand now 30 years later. Truck models change so often each year fixing previous problems and adding new problems. Just have to take a snapshot of who has what when it comes time to buy and make an educated decision and move on. My father in law now drives a truck that is inferior to the competetion because I think he still believes brand x has bad transmissions. I currently drive a 2011 ecoboost and use it as a truck towing 3 trailers. In 2011 many would agree that was the truck of choice and it has never even blinked at what I haul with it.
Would I buy it again here in the 2013 model? I wouldn't know until I shopped ALL of them again because I am not brand loyal to anything. I have reasons for not wanting a GM product but if they made some superstar truck that smokes the competition for my needs, i would have to process some thoughts and give it consideration. What you may find in your research is that many are brand loyal and will tout "their" brand and bash others as a hobby. I would search dedicated websites specific to each model so that you are seeing real owners praises and problems. This website has a mix of owners that may be embarrassed to mention troubles with their brand because some percieve this as competing in a game of who has the best truck.
Here is what I like about my 2011 Ecoboost with max tow: Spaceous interior, super quiet interior, super powerful engine, dash layout with lcd, huge floor space on supercrew, empty mileage (16-16.5 town, 19-20 at 70 mph), and general appearance.
Here is what I don't like about my truck: Ride quality is a litte harsh, Stock radio sound quality is poor, sync system has occasional fart, no boost gage from factory, towing mileage is lower than expected, and two stage turn signal is hard to get used to.
About 14,000 miles and about 2/3 of tread left on 18" tires if that helps.
