DK45 glow plugs

Thanks for the excellent post and photos Seacap04. I learned a lot about my tractor by reading your post.

It also saved me from a potential problem. I went to compare my DK35 with your photos and noticed a bit of antifreeze on the block. It had leaked from a semi-loose hose clamp. I tightened it and it will hopefully fix the very slight leak. I likely would not have noticed until it got worse if it wasn't for your post causing me to really look at the area.

Coyote Machine, it is very easy to add text to the photo's. I use my software that came with an old canon scanner. But any photo shop type of program or even paint will allow you to add text to photo's and then save the resulting file back out to your hard drive.

I'm the OP to the other thread about DK45 glow plugs. Your explanation and pics of what you did was excellent! Very much appreciated. It wouldn't have fixed my problem, but this thread documented very adequately how to check your whole glow plug system. Thank you.

Thanks CM. I should have made a statement about the oil fill cap. You would have to be really determined to get to that cap to put oil through it.

No Problema Cap! :)
Interesting, I popped the hood on my manufactured in Jan '10, DK-40 to see what was similar. There is NO shut off under the coolant reservoir. Guess the later models are left to blow up and leave no evidence of IP failure?!:confused2::eek: And the busbar is narrower and covered in some sort of: looks like black plastic, vs. what your pics show.
Man they could have easily designed the hood to allow for it to be raised completely perpendicular to the engine by releasing the piston's pin, but that would have been too convenient and have made too much sense for servicing- DUH!!:duh:

Sorry CM I missed your comment on text in pics. As kOua stated most photo software allows you to do this. I took photos with my cell phone Down loaded to laptop and used Cannon software that came with an old camera. Just choose the pic, click on edit, and click on add text. My hood had to come off. Pulling pin to gas cyl would have only gotten another inch or so before binding on cowl. Maybe if I was younger I could have worked in there. Should of seen me trying to get in there with temp probe and take pic. I was very happy to find shut down lever. May put a push/pull cable on it as my tractor is in the year range of bad IPs.

Scheizer, probably would have helped me if I had searched the subject first. Available time to do it came up sooner than expected and I was going to do this anyways. If my issue had been controller circuit that would have been another story. Thanks for the comments.

I know, I too have had my hood off to work in the non-existent space otherwise left when the hood is on. I was saying it would make sense for Kioti to make it so the hood would tilt vertical instead of how it is now.:confused3:

OK, the big test this morning. 20 degrees, the tractor has sat for 3 days. It started instantly and ran even. If there was any smoke, it was masked by condensation from the exhaust. I'm happy.

Excellent work as well as a good data point showing that a healthy (prechamber-style) Diesel should start right up, even near zero. But there will be some unburned fuel for the first few seconds and that looks like white smoke.

Way to go! Good execution of the solution to the problem. Glad to hear you're happy, and you ought to be considering you solved a sometimes vexing problem with these tractors- which can have many subtle symptoms which can be hard to diagnose.
