Some of you are missing the point with the DIRECT INJECTION and the 11 to 1 mechanical compression/expansion ratio on regular gas.
The variable valve timing is a simple method to match valve timing with rpms. No EGR valve either.
Why change the shortblock, they were proven and bullet proof. Save some development money.
What advances are there left to make on the body and frame? They have been as light, strong and aerodynamic as possible for the past 13 years with conventional cost effective materials. Nothing to change in transmissions either.

strong bodies? you're joking, right? I wish I could have shown you the difference in body strength between my 2004 and my 2011. your jaw would hit the ground. my 2004 gave me 8 good years of trouble free service and reliability. the paint started to ship in places on my 2011 within 5 months. the seats in my 2011 had just as much wear on them in one year as the seats on my 2004 after 8 years. I'm glad they finally got VVT. my Tacoma has had it since 2003. I see they finally added rear disc brakes, whoopie. they come STANDARD on other full-size trucks and have for YEARS. They didn't need to save any money on this truck, but you can tell they did. this truck is/was going to make or break them and while I think it will be competitive, I forsee GM going back on their hands and knees to Uncle Barry begging for more gimmie. All they did was add stuff to their trucks that everyone else has had for years.

Not sure what you're referring to here...My 2001 Tahoe, 2004 Z71, 2006 Hummer and 2011 GMC all had/have rear disks..Nothing new there.

BTW, not sure why you hated your 2011, I love my 2011 GMC 6.2 and have no desire to buy anything else for a few years, at least. I'm still trying to figure out what your expectation is for this...Not giving you a hard time but I'd like a picture of what you expected.

AFM is here to stay until something else takes it's place...6 speeds are everywhere, 8 speeds are out there too...Soon they will all be VHT or something like that...I'm happy with the 6 speed I have.

I run my truck 65 miles roundtrip every day on interstates and I have no paint issues..Still looks like glass...My leather seats still look like new after almost 40k...

I have noticed the drum brakes on GM trucks also. Ford and the Imports have been all disc for 10 years or so. I know the high trim line GM trucks had disc but to not make them standard until now was just stupid.

I'm personally agnostic about rear disks..Had both and if the drums are set up correctly they work fine...I'm sure disks are better for some things, I just never cared one way or the other and I still don't...Haven't had a truck with drums in close to 10 years.

What?????? You must be the only guy in American thst likes drums. Disc are much more efficent, weigh less, easier to inspect, easier to work on, and reduce unsprung weight.

Heck, I even have disc brakes on two of my three trailers.

Maybe I am...Inspection is certainly easier...Beyond that I never cared and I still don't....Don't really care about unsprung weight either for the relatively small amount the difference becomes.

I've never found drums to be difficult to work on...I have two classic Chevy cars both with front disk (there is a difference) and drum rears.

I grew up working on drums, so I have no problem with them.

I grew up working on them also and still do weekly on trailers. I guess you are just old skool or just in the GM can do no wrong camp. If I had a classic car the first thing I would do would be to upgrade the brakes to disc all around. Every magazine and Sunday morning car show that is what they do and for good reason. I would venture to say that when I upgraded my 12,000# and 18,000# trailers from drums to disc brakes I cut the stopping distance by 30 to 40%.

Its a proven fact that disc brakes are far superior to drums. Its progress and not that hard to understand. Glad I drive brands that have it figured out.

My feelings on the matter have nothing to do with GM...I leave my old cars original....I don't drive like an idiot, so drums have never given me any problems...Ever.

As far as disks being easier to work on, care to explain why Ford was the first to introduce torx heads on caliper bolts?...That was fun...No wonder parts stores sold hex heads to replace them...If you could get them out. i couldn't belive it the first time I saw that.

Lighten up..I play the hand I'm dealt no matter what style of brakes I face.

I suppose braking performance doesnt matter? I mean i understand drums WORK.... but there is a reason the were dropped LONG LONG ago for front brakes. performance!

Shure you could buy a GM truck with drums on it and not care, but then again all your competition has had discs for a while and out perform them hands down and today its performance that sells. (which is why toyota can walk into big american truck league and walk off with a big bite of market share in a very short time)

Say what you want but you are in a 1 percent minority.

I mean come on. We all grew up dealing with carburetors and points but today you could not give most people something with them including me.

Of course just like they make disc brake kits for this old iron they also make efi systems and electronic ignitions.
