Ruger P95 Thoughts??

I'll echo it's a little big to carry around, especially in TX.

S&W M&P sub compacts are very affordable and great guns, haven't shot the shield yet but it is even smaller and supposedly great...if you can find one.

I haven't tested a P95 yet, have handled a couple and they would be much too large for me to carry. I am much concerned about nobody being aware that I am carrying. Like many others here I own several Rugers and so when it came time to purchase a concealed carry weapon I got a LCP. I know the 380 is not as effective as a 45 or a 9mm BUT none of those can be concealed as well as I can hide my LCP.

My billfold goes on the left, this on my right. I forget it is there and unless somebody wonders about me carrying two billfolds it is totally concealed but instantly accessable. It stays in the holster to fire and is actually easier to handle once you get used to the feel of the pistol in the leather. Still able to change magazines and work the slide while holstered.

Best to have something you WILL carry.

I have had both a P89 and a P90. Both good guns but big and blocky. Generally the triggers in the series are long and stiff (although the P90 was a decent trigger.)

That size will be more difficult to conceal. Not a big deal in states like Kentucky and Ohio, but more of a concern in Texas.

Like others have said it is a bulky carry. I carried a P-95 IWB for a while and it wasn't terrible but there are much better choices for a carry gun. Slim and rounded edges are the name of the game for carry.

But the P-95 was one of the most reliable guns I have owned. Never a single jam, which is a huge factor (if you have ever experience the frustration of a "jam-0-matic" you know why). One of my favorite carries is a bob-tailed 1911 or the Browning Hi-Power. The Hi-Powers can be finicky with some ammo. But with rounded / ball ammo they are one of my favorites. They just feel right.

I also carry and highly recommend the Ruger LCP. Very small and comfortable to carry. I looked at the compact Kel-Tec .380 first, but was underwhelmed by the poor manufacture quality and support.

I have a P85 as a non-carry shooter, it's just too big to carry. I would much rather have the '95 style de-cocker than the '85 safety mechanism, but both are solid, reliable weapons.

I also have an LCP and consider it a great little handgun. .380 will slow or stop an assailant...long enough for one to get away or call for help. And it is a gun you will carry because it's so easy to carry.
That said, I most frequently carry a light weight .38 revolver...

As far as carrying a larger gun (and I do carry a larger gun on occasion), sometimes one must be willing to dress around the gun. A vest or similar garment works quite well.
Dressing around the gun is part of carrying...just a fact of life.

Same here, I have yet to find anything as comfortable as the snub revolver. Probably what I have at least 80% of the time.

I have a P89 accurate and nice to hold. it is like other comments heavy and hard to conceal if that is what you are after. Mine was a special that came with a 30carbine barrel too. It is the SS 15rnd came with 4 clips 2 per 9mm & 30. I've put maybe 800 rounds thru it since NEW with little to no wear issues.

Need to break it out & run some rounds thru it again as it has been locked up for a while as I keep my stock of ammo safe...

WOW! Lots of good info guys. There is a wealth of knowledge here on just about any facet of rural living. I should have joined a long time ago. I'm still thinking of going with a Ruger, possibly the SR9c. Still doing a lot of research, but the SR9c is looking like it maybe my choice. Not definite so time will tell. Thanks to everyone for the info. It may have kept me from making a big mistake. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!!!!!
