. While I would prefer an Aussie type law, I'd settle for something between that and what we have now so long as it had teeth and was likely to lower the odds of some nutcase getting his hands on a rapid fire weapon and a few hundred rounds of ammo.

What makes you think it will lower the odds of some nut case getting their hands on these weapons ? There are laws against this and laws against criminals having guns. These two groups seem to have no trouble getting what they want . Inforce the laws you have. You seem to have no problem taking away something a law abbiding citizen may want. Like I said....Just because you have a few bad apples. You want to punish the good law abbiding citizen. Your thinking is,,,,, We can't keep the guns out of the law breakers hands so, we'll just punish everyone

I enjoy debating the issue with my TBN buddies but don't think for a minute that you will change your minds. You represent a very conservative portion of our population so I would expect you to remain stalwart gun "nuts" (joke alert). However you are mostly to the right of the rest of our population so the laws that do get written on this issue will certainly be somewhere in between what you would want or, on the other side what I would want. While I would prefer an Aussie type law, I'd settle for something between that and what we have now so long as it had teeth and was likely to lower the odds of some nutcase getting his hands on a rapid fire weapon and a few hundred rounds of ammo.

I have to agree about TBN membership being far to the right of the average American. BTW I think you are doing a fine job debating this crowd pretty much all by yourself. Enjoy it while it lasts cause I can feel a crackdown from the site owners coming on as this place is turning into GunByNet.

Is that a good or bad thing? Ken Sweet

Well, it makes people think. And most of the discussion has been civil, with only a few people throwing in some nasty personal comments.

Unfortunately, in these conversations, people tend to focus on the differences. Lets not forget how many things we all have in common... usually a LOT more than we have differences. so lets keep the discussion going, yet remain civil.

I think you are sadly mistaken. Today's criminal has grown up exclusively in the Internet era. The Internet is their favorite planning tool. From Google earth images, forums, 411 services etc.

Thieves and perverts love the Internet.

Yet most of these criminal geniuses eventually get caught and now they even leave convenient electronic footprints to help convict themselves.

If someone wants to do some "data mining," the FBI has crime statistics online.

Start here, choose a year, then an offense or category, then a table.
FBI Uniform Crime Reports

Example
Table-Murder weapons 2010
FBI Table 20

Agree IslandTractor is doing a pretty good job along with some others. I am not s sure that TBN members are that far to the right as only a small number of the total memberships bothers to post on these types of threads and simply shake their heads and move on to a subject that interests them like which box scraper, blade blower to buy or how many remotes etc.

You may be right about closing some or all of these threads though if not for any unpleasantness because some of us, myself included just wind up saying the same things over and over again. I have sworn off of a couple only to come back "just one more time".:eek:

You are joking right????

Those countries have far lower murder rates and gun homicide rates than we do. Orders of magnitude lower.

In Britain you are not even allowed to carry a pocket knife. I read of a worker sent to jail because he was on a job, put a razor knife in his pocket, forgot it was there, and went to lunch. Someone saw it and he was arrested. And if you have the slightest opportunity to run away, you are not allowed to defend yourself against personal attack. Bands of roving yobs terrorize people on a regular basis. The quality of secure life there pretty much sucks. God help us if we turn into Britain.

We agree. Saturday night specials were an issue mostly with urban youth violence, not mass killings. It is not a simple problem but tightening the laws can still be part of the solution without interfering with real hunters. Aussies and Brits still hunt with guns. Some of the Youtube nitwits might have their fun disrupted but I'd be willing to trade that for fewer and less lethal mass killings.

They're coming for you soot belching diesel tractor next. ;)

When you allow Constitutional rights to be usurped, you soon find there are none.
