I'm interested in purchasing an electronic predator caller. Do any of you guys use one? Have brand recommendations?

Good topic. I've been looking at calls. So far seems that the options are generally as follows:

hand held....puts stuff in your hands and you move during the call, plus calls stuff straight to you...all less than optimum

simple electronic....seem limited to a few calls. not very flexible, lower in cost. I have a fellow who hunts on the place who has several of these. Says if he gets busted by a coyote (seen), then he cannot bring that same call back for over a year...has to switch to a different call for his next hunt because coyote will remember previous call and not be fooled again by it.

highly flexible electronic calls, including ability to store many different kinds of calls for different game...coyote, bobcat, turkey, deer, etc.... Also, can download .MP3 files so there is huge flexibility since many different files/sounds can be found and downloaded from the net,. These are really expensive calls.

Features that I want to find all in one place would be
$150 approx price
20 calls stored at a time...MP3 files
remote which could initiate any of the files, start, stop, range of 50 yards, easy to use, minimum hand movement to use.
rechargeable batteries for remote and call
several volumes to select from...including VERY LOUD.
weather proof/water proof (rain, accidental drop into puddle)

So far, have only looked on line at what Cabella's, Academy have...nothing yet that meets all criteria...price is main sticking point. Also, since everything is now China made, maybe there is an online site that ships from China??

Interested in hunting coyote, hogs, turkey, deer, bobcat. I had thought of starting exactly the thread you started...so, will watch replies with interest. Am hoping that someone has found just the right thing...the ability to download and use sound files should avoid the need to purchase multiple calls.

Texas John have you tried Ebay, they have a lot of places that are in China. I have looked for varment calls there either, just a thought.
I don't like the idea of a hand held either.

FoxPro is a brand made in America. As you would expect, they are premium priced but seem to be the most highly recommended from a quality standpoint. The entry level unit is $200 but has very good ratings by users on the various e retail sites. They have a cordless remote control which I definitely want. The range on the remote is 100 yadds. The premium units can go as high as $600. l'm not interested in investing that much. I'll probably opt for the $200 unit if I decide to pull the trigger.

I have 2 electronic callers, one with remote control that uses mp3 format and one that uses cassett tapes.
Both work well. The older cassett tape is louder and some times louder is better.
I seem to always grab the squealer (mouth call). I have called them right into my lap with that. Once you call one up and it stops a few feet away and looks you right in the eye, you'll love a mouth call.
My digital is a Minaska Outdoors. The old one is a Western rivers. I haven't had any problems with either.
I think your hunting conditions, dogs and terrain have more to do with the type of call you use.

I went to the Minaska Outdoors site...seems it is in quite a bit of disarray...and they are coming out with new calls some time soon...and prices seem to be 300 to 700 dollars...so, you get a eye full of coyote....but, gonna take a really good hand with the shotgun to get him before he scoots out of there!!! You're a good sport to hunt that way...me, I want a shot at a short distance...but, we dont always get what we want when hunting!!

I've used cheapo electronic calls and better ones, but best results have usually depended on using a motorized decoy too.

I have 80 acres and am getting into goats. I have a coyote issue as I can hear them "singing" after dark many nights. Last September one of my goats just disappeared even with two donkeys in the pasture. I put out some trail camera's and have several pictures of coyotes. So me and Wil E Coyote have delcared war. If poison was legal, I would have no issue using it. But it's not, and I'm not going to jail so hunting it is.

I just ordered the one below for Christmas. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I also got a mouth call. Same story, haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Although playing with it in the house it is suprisingly loud and easy to use.

I also got a light to shoot after dark (it's legal in Indiana for coyotes). The lights below absolutely shocked me at how bright they were and how far you could see with them. You can see easily 200 yards with the green filter. I ordered the shoot and scan kit with two lights and multiple red/green bulbs.

I'm pondering a motorized decoy.

Fox Pro for sure;add a motorized decoy.Try to set up where they can't get down-wind.Lots of fun ,.223 or shot-gun is our choice.Note;.223 ammo is real scarce,.22 rimfire magnums also work well on coyotes, fox ect.
