When I started this thread, I knew it would "cause" discussion, which I think is a good thing. Feral cats are a HUGE problem and to the point of being devastating in some areas to the local wildlife. I have had maybe 4 cats in my life, if I want something to "rub" my leg in the morning, I prefer my wife, if we "aint in the mood" for that, I'll rub my own leg
I have noticed (with the 4 cats I had) some are more predatory than others, fact I had one that I'm pretty sure killed one bird (that I saw) and she never ventured off (unusual for a feline) The others where typical cats.
Now you factor in a cat that has been "thrown out" on its own , or any feral cat, they hunt ALLOT and multiply ALLOT, so in this regard I'm with
Pine 100%
Everyone knows cats and dogs can be two different problems, but I think canines are easier to control. I have a problem with any wild population of UN-natural predators, but I think it takes very little brainpower to see cats can be a real problem. I can see where they provide a certain benefit (for an individual), but personally, I do what I can to discourage mice and the like from getting where they are not wanted, I dont kill snakes, they dont "scare" me, I encourage hawks and owls (if they get one of my chickens..oh well). The wife and I enjoy seeing the rabbits in the yard, the Bluebirds in the house we made.
Bottom line for me is this, cats left unattended are a parasite on the very part of the "country life" we all claim to enjoy, at the same time, they are part of the "country life" some enjoy, understandably so, I think it comes down to individual responsibility and that varies intensely between all areas of animal husbandry. You could also start a thread on invasive animals like starlings, Pythons as Pine mentioned.. We humans can be our own enemies from our own miss understanding and personal enjoyment.
Disclaimer:laughing: Yes, I am from the cloth that would say " He's a rapist( insert any violent criminal)!! hang his *****), others may say "lets rehabilitate him and turn him loose"
