Cats killing billions of animals??

Yo, not so grumpy, 30 minutes is underdone, and you know the warnings on undercooked cat...

unless we did so involuntarily at the chinese restaurant, I'll put money (uh oh- ok, 2 cents) that no one here has eaten a cat.

If there is a problem with too many cats, the problem exists because of us. Spay and nueter your felines, no problem.

The numbers did not include yours or your neighbor's free ranging cats. The cats they are talking about are completely feral. The stats for domestic cats owned and allowed to free range are drastically lower than the numbers suggested for feral cats. I tend to look at these numbers very suspiciously because I don't see bands of cats roaming the countryside reeking devastation on the bird and rodent populations. I wonder what the effect on bird populations of pesticides/insecticides and urban sprawl? How many birds per year are killed by automobiles and nests of ground fowl and rodents destroyed by people mowing? Oh! The horrors of a plowed field to all those tiny mice feeding on the left-overs of last years crops. Just think. All those birds killed and there's still birds pooping on my car. All those mice killed and they still make nests in the electrical wires of my tractor. If anybody has a spare feral cat, can you send them to me?:laughing:

Possum, coon, rattlesnake, dove, quail, squirrel, Javelin, wild hog, goat, sheep, wild turkey, goose, duck, pigeon, bass, perch, catfish, frog, crayfish, whitetail, axis, rabbit, crab, beef, Guenna pig have been collected, prepared and eaten by me. I'm missing horse, mule, cat, dog and armadillo.

well, horse is easy, find some cheap offbrand hamburger...
Mule, well I just can't imagine. Cat and dog are off my comfort zone,
and an armadillo, well for those of us who don't have those cool little critters around,
I know they eat them in other countries, so I guess an armadillo burger isn't far off.
Like a porcupine, you'd sure have to work at it to get somewhere.

Now I've bet you've eaten some "gourmet" crocodile somewhere. Too bad there isn't a good recipe
for those pythons running rampant in Florida. Turnabout is fair play, the invasive species eat too much,
let's eat them.

You are correct, sir, alligator and croc are on my list of eaten. But I did not personally collect and prepare.

I have collected but not eaten armadillo, porcupine, skunk, ringtail, snapping turtle, red ear turtle, nutria, buzzard...I guess I have some standards!!

Jim, the way I read it, the things you mention "used to be" what they used to "estimate/ consider" towards bird/mice mortality. I dont think there is any 100% foolproof way for anyone to get 100% reliable stats. I see feral cats all the time, tracks even more, i think it is likely a regional proplem.

I have "removed" 3 cats in 4 months, that either take up residence under my house and/or get in the trash, when caught in a live trap, they are no more tame then a Bobcat. I saw 7 over the deer season sitting in my blind.

I have also read on a few forums (wish I had a link to post) where places up NE like Pennsylvania have a horrible population of feral cats.

Next feral I catch though, it's all yours if you want it:laughing: Just bring some stout leather gloves!!

Western, what do you bait a cat with for the traps? Milk and catnip? Drew

When bears come down from the woods into suburbia, we trap them and haul them away.
Too many cats for that, but maybe something would help. Most of us do not have a 22 hollow point
as an option, living in a no-shoot area.
