Heat Reclaimer for wood stove

Be sure to get a ceiling fan or similar going to de-stratify the air when using a point source vs a forced air heating setup. 'Air-tight' stoves don't suck much cold air from floor level & heating the ceiling/roof won't warm the space, tho' snow will melt off pretty well.

Catalytic flue add-ons and built-ins were out there years ago, but I don't know if they stood the test of time or passed codes everywhere. They did promise to keep flue temp up & draft going well while minimizing creosote buildup. Are they still around?

Yea....I hear you. I have access to lots of wood so cost isn't the issue.....I was just wanting to warm the shop quicker....I thought the reclaimer might help?

I see your point. Do you have a portable heater? If I want to get the edge off the cold in the pole barn while the wood stove is heating up, I just run my 75,000 btu torpedo heater for 15 to 30 minutes. Takes a dollar or two worth of diesel and then the wood stove keeps things warm. And it's handy to have around for other purposes.

if you use I check your chimney more often as you will be cooling your exhaust more leading to creosote like they said. But if your letting that thing rip to warm the shop there probably is a lot of extra heat in that exhaust that you can reclaim.

Yea thanks for the comment. Haven't decided yet which way to go....but good advice on checking that chimney often....

here is our heat reclaimer on the anthracite coal stove in basement. The brand is volgazang and cost 99.00, Ialso have one on my small wood stove in garage. They are thermostatic controled dont come on untill pipe gets to 350 degrees. So far they have done a goog job. Stove pipes are 6 in.

My parents had magic heat on their woodstove for nearly 30 years. They did away with it since it was too noisy and less cleaning of chimney needed. They have a tall concrete chimney so it cooled off fast. They bought one of those induction fans that is powered by heat and it sooooo much quieter.
