Here's a pic of the old and new side-by-side -- kinda easy now to figure out why it wasn't gripping properly

In that picture they are both threaded tight and I measured the aperture and it's the same - so that old tip is just out of whack.

Take the nozzle apart and reassemble it. I think one of the jaws is out of position.

Bingo! You might have ruined the end by having it too tight and pulling it off the zerk. There are two or four little jaws in there that hold on to each side of the zerk, and they are probably worn or bent. I would just put a new end on. Should be good to go! :thumbsup:

Obviously you have a new 4 jaw tip, so just toss the other one, loosen the threads on the new one so it can be hand adjusted so next time you have a hard time getting it off the zerk, you can just loosen it by hand to remove it.
