Nice vice. Good work. Wrong paint color though. If you really want the paint to last you should change it to Kioti orange, then the paint will outlast the vice, just like Kioti tractors outlast other brands!:)
BTW, one of your original pics had a label at the base of the vice which says, 'made in China'.

Yup I know it's from China!

Something tells me it will last unlike today's products from China.

We discussed the China Connection earlier in the thread but this vise seems to be a throwback to the Mings or whatever and is really well-built. As noted, I have the exact same vise and have beat on it and treated it terrible for over 15 years yet it's still my go-to vise when I need something held tighter than Charlton Heston's grip. For whatever reason, this particular vise seems to be a winner. Toss in a quality paint job and it's good to go. I might paint mine this summer.

Yeah I agree! Not like most of today's Chinese c*#p

Please post pics of your vise when you do decide to freshen it up

Will do but give me till mid summer.
Now to decide the color choice...IH Red, JD Green, Kubota Orange? Any other choices?
Rememebr, my vise looks pretty bad--see photos below from earlier in the thread--and it gets rode hard and put away wet...so color has to blend with abuse.

I vote JD Green and Yellow would be nice I think

I think this is the current model HF vise that replaces the one you rebuilt. This new version sure looks lighter duty.

5" Multi-Purpose Vise

Maximum 8 oz hammer!

Since I have the same vise as the restoration one done in this thread, I don't think the new model could handle the 6 lb sledge hammer that my old vise grew accustomed to.

Sixdogs,

I believe you are correct. The new vise does not appear to be as heavy duty. I wonder how much body filler is under that paint?
