Ultra, I could go over early in the week, and look it over. Act as a go between, and make it seem as it is being overseen local.

Pete... very generous of you.

I hope to have more info soon.

Do you have any HVAC recommendations you could DM me?

I've got calls out to G & G Heating and Gasworks

The family that lives there is great... an older couple, partially retired

What was state of the art 2 yrs ago isn't state of the art today.A/C systems are constantly changing. The manufactures have no idea what the EPA is going to hit them with next. You most likely have contamination throughout the system from a compressor failure

I have used Crystal Air for service on my heat pump for several years. Their prices are very reasonable and the work is top notch. I would have them check the unit out before deciding to replace it. If it needs to be replaced he has them for sale, if it can be repaired he will do that instead. Phone (360) 357-3335 Sometimes you have leave a message. He will call you back.

To me, 9k is a very significant cost to replace what was state of the art 12 years ago.

I agree. As I said, I spent about $6,000 to replace a state of the art 11 year old system, but I got bids in excess of $9k. I replaced everything because the coils had corroded and were leaking Freon in the attic and since they now use a different Freon I decided I wanted it all replaced.

I don't know when you had that done, but that's sure a good price. Next month will be 3 years since I had my 13 SEER Goodman heat pump installed. Everything was new, inside and out, Freon lines, thermostat, etc. except it uses the old ductwork and of course the electric wiring to the unit. But mine cost about $6,000. And yes, it has a 10 year warranty, although I think that is from the company that installed it instead of Goodman. But several months after it was installed I also went with a maintenance agreement with the company, and yes they told me it really wasn't necessary. But I pay them $12 a month and I've never needed to call for any kind of service, but they call me each Spring and again each Fall to make an appointment to come inspect and check everything.

I think it was 4 or 5 years this march. We got two 3 ton units when we purchased the house. These were "package" units where everything sits outside, we have no air handler in the house, as thats how it was set up before.

Oh mine too were 13 seer.

I appreciate the information. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, just that it's considerably different from what I have.
