Last month, we wanted a new countertop broiler/toaster oven. At the first Walmart we went to, there was only one of the model I wanted. It was in a box that had been opened and the Styrofoam you normally see was missing from one end of the box. I found a young lady in another department and asked where I could find someone familiar with the kitchenware stuff. She called on her little phone and a young man promptly showed up. I asked if they had any more of that model, unopened, he checked his handheld (whatever you call it) and said it showed to have just one and it was in one of the outdoor storage units, but that he'd go get it, if I didn't mind waiting. They have about 14 of those shipping containers out back for storage. We waited and he eventually came back with it. Like me, he suspected the one in the opened box had been returned. So he opened the box he just brought in, and darned if that oven didn't have a dent, which was puzzling because it didn't show on the outside of the box.

So he asked if I'd like him to check other Walmarts for their stock. I told him which one. He checked again on his handheld (whatever you call it), said they showed to have 4 in stock and he'd call to make sure. I told him he didn't need to call, that we were going that direction anyway.

I don't think you could ask for any better service. And we did buy the new oven at the other Walmart.

I haven't noticed the problem because I don't shop at Walmart.
The last Walmart I went into was at Taos, New Mexico in 2006. It was pigsty and disorganized to the point the employees couldn't even find what I needed. All I wanted was a small room fan. Walked out with nothing.

Years ago, went to a K-Mart south of San Diego, just north of the bordor... absolutly the most wrecked store I've ever seen. Looked like a day care drop off for young children to play for the day. Many, many toys openned and cluttering the store. Walmart... I don't go there.

I used to go to another major food chain for our groceries. I started shopping at the Walmart Express that opened in November, because my Wife and I saved quite a lot of money on our Prescriptions at the Walmart Pharmacy. I started shopping at this Walmart Express in December. Although they aren't as large as the average Walmart, I have found each and every Walmart employee to be highly helpful. BTW, the Pharmacists are fast, helpful, proficient and top notch. Our area is very rural. The population of the entire County is around 23,000.

I haven't been many decent Walmarts recently. Oh no - I have to go there today!

Try not going to Walmart, just try it! You WILL have to go there for something sooner or later!:banghead:

I haven't set foot in a Walmart in10 years. Before that, it had been another 10. Was in west Texas 10 years ago, with a flat tire on the travel trailer, and the Walmart was the only game in town, or I would not have gone in then. Next tire place was over an hour away. I guess the Walmart had managed to run the other tire places, and mom and pop groceries out of town. I hope that I am never in a position to have to go into another one.

I think that it is all about the local management. I have two Home Depots equally distant and they are night and day. One has friendly helpful employees and organized shelves, the other has employees that won't make eye contact and merchandise all mixed up in the bins.

Sometimes you don't have many choices. On Sunday before Memorial Day, 1995, one of my brothers and I were enroute to Ellensburg, WA, from Denton, TX, pulling my little 5' x 10' tiltbed trailer when 38 miles east of Pendleton, OR, the left trailer tire threw every bit of its tread and bent the fender; however, the tire was still holding air and we drove on into Pendleton only to find almost nothing open on a Sunday, especially a holiday weekend. But there was a Bi-Mart open. I'd never heard of them and its a membership thing like Sam's Club and Costco. So we explained our problem to the manager and he agreed to sell to us non-members if they had what we needed. Their shop was closed, but in the store they happened to have 2 tires mounted on wheels and aired up that would fit my trailer. So I was very happy to pay $140 for 2 tires and wheels.

I do like BiMart. I probably shop them at least once a week. Four miles from me. Prices are usually better than the Ace hardware although selection is slim for some items.

I'd like them, too, if they're all as helpful as that one was, but that's the only one I've ever seen.
