Watcha eating?

NO! you are not getting away with saying that. That is awful food full of fat and cholesterol. It is heart attack food and since your mother and your wife are not there to tell you, I am. EAT MORE VEGGIES!!!! You need the nutrition to help you through this.

Yeah, he's right. That stuff is really never good but I suppose in moderation all things are possible. Cancel the chips for sure and substiture things without saturated fat for snacks. Carrots, radishes, celery, watermelon, etc all come to mind. Even baked chips/crisps with no saturated fat.

The problem is a diet of fat and salt takes increasing amounts to be satisfied and when you sandwich in a carrot , the carrot can't compare. Try to look at every food individually on the basis of fat and salt content and elimate saturated fat for starters and then on to salt. After that, carrots taste pretty good. You have more energy, get more accomplished at work which leads to more productivity and earned income and lets you buy more tractors or keep what you've got.

It's your life but any chance you want to see those girls grow up and graduate, have kids and you be a grandfather? You could have a stroke just as easy and be a vegetable later on. So toss in some cardio on a daily basis and things will work out.

That's the end forever of my soapbox.

Yes David, besides Saturated Fat and Cholesterol now there is Carnitine to consider.

PCRM-"People who eat meat produce more artery-clogging intestinal byproducts than people who follow vegan and vegetarian diets, according to a new study from the Cleveland Clinic. Researchers followed 2,595 heart patients and categorized them as omnivores, vegans, or vegetarians and found that those who consumed the most carnitine, present in animal products, increased their risk for heart disease by producing more artery-clogging metabolites. This study lends insight into other components of meat products, besides saturated fat and cholesterol, that may elevate the risk of heart disease.

Koeth RA, Wang Z, Levison BS, et al. Intestinal microbiota metabolism of L-carnitine, a nutrient in red meat, promotes atherosclerosis. Nat Med. Published online April 7, 2013."

Dripolaters make the best coffee, whether they be a $5 aluminum unit from Montomery Ward or my fancy . No other method keeps the coffee a pur tasting.

Since Toppop is using fancy words, "dripolaters" I had to google.:laughing::laughing: I THINK a "dipolater" is just a pot that holds the grounds and lets the hot water seep through? I found some antique ones for sale. Does Montgomery Ward's still exist or is someone showing their age?:laughing::laughing: The search actually FOUND Toppop's mention of "dripolaters" which was a bit scary. :D:D:D

My machine worked this morning. You have to push the button just right....

SS funnel and quart measuring "cup" will be here today which will allow me, I hope, to make my own dripolators. If I keep saying dripolator, I am going to have to wear a funny Roman hat, have a space ship looking like a V2 rocket, carry a ray gun, travel to Mars, and have it out with Bugs Bunny.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

My favorite coffee pot for now is a Cuisinart SS, glass carafe timer unit with one of the cone style filters. It has a charcoal filter in the unit, but it tasted way better with my well water at home vs. city water at my bud's house.

I grind my own custom blends, typically 85-90% french roast and the rest vanilla. I grind it just a tad coarser than espresso.
:licking:

One of my coffee maker requirements is for a NO glass coffee pot. The second coffee maker on the Cooks Illustrated list has a SS pot. With glass inside! Really? Many, many reports of the glass just cracking. I left glass thermoses behind when I stopped taking my Scooby Doo lunch box to school.:laughing::laughing::laughing: The Cuisinart we have now as a double wall SS coffee pot which I why I bought the particular machine.

The maker we bought has a grinder inside. I think I used it once. I was buying a variety of expensive coffees, some of which greatly declined in quality over time, and the others varied in acidity. I was at my parents and they had ground Foldgers under the sink. Tried it because I had no choice and it tasted as good as the expensive stuff I had at home. Been buying Foldgers ever since.:laughing::laughing:

Dan

I suggest a big glass of V8 juice flavored quite liberally with Stolis.

:drink: Now we're talking!

Keep in mind, I am living on a couch at a buddies house...

I got to get by as best as I can...

I am a guest in their house, I make as little impact as possible...

Be well,
David

I agree..Don has got me now where I'm afraid of anything that bleeds...:

I've heard:
Don't eat anything with a face.
Don't eat anything with a mother.
Don't eat anything with a bladder.

That's the first time I heard don't eat anything that bleeds! I'll add it to my list.

You know, a significant and perhaps dominant factor in all this food and diet talk is how much outgo a person has. If you are sitting on a couch all day eating carrots and get zero cardio workout I would guess you are in worse shape than a guy that cardio works out an hour every day but eats a McDonald's hamburger on a regular basis. What you eat is absolutely important but unless you are working it out, my friend the heart doc says we are kidding ourselves.

In fact, he says his experience shows the determining factor of how well a person does, post heart attack or blockage is the amout and type of cardio exercise they do. Diet is important, yes...but.
