I told myself I wasn't going to post on this thread, but when this statement came across.....well.

I have never seen a gun marketed to children. Maybe you need to travel down and see for yourself. Until then, maybe you need to figuire out what you are claiming, before posting it. Claiming we are OK with what you claim is just showing your ignorance.

I've been good with a firearm since age 7, but they were not lying around the house. They were always under lock, if any other kids were over to visit, since they may not have had such training.

I don't think gun safes existed when my dad was a kid, but there were rifles and other guns around. None of the kids were harmed by a firearm either. Maybe knowing about them was the key.

It is one thing to respect the weapon, but some of the enighbors to the north seem to be AFRAID of them. I find that a bit odd. Just saying.

Lost in the debate...population of Canada is about 12% of the US. While I would like to say that their failed gun-control measures should be proof that it won't work here either, I'll skip that and state that you can't use Canada as a "comparable". Other than sharing a continent, the US and Canada are not the same in too many respects.

Maybe the title of this thread should be stupidity control, this speaks for itself. How anybody lets a five year old "play" with a 22 is beyond comprehension for me. I've never seen any case where I would want to take all guns away but I sure see a lot of cases where stupidity should be dealt with more sternly, regardless wether it's guns in childrens hands, driving junkers on major highways or politicians wasting dollars. They all make me wish the penalties were stiff enough that people would think twice about doing some things.

I really don't know the best way to say this but, laws are for honest people, honest poeple, crazy poeple or criminals don't care about laws or anything but what they want to do.they just act out.
.the laws are there parents are the ones who take the resposniblity for thier children of at least 18 years of age.

Nothing on TBN gets a bigger reaction than gun control. I'm always amazed that so many people see any and all gun control as unnecessary and dangerous. Well, I think this situation speaks for itself.

Toddler, five, accidentally kills two-year-old sister with
It only speaks of irresponsible parents not storing the gun properly and for them not teaching the kids that guns aren't toys.
I think it's a good thing that they make a smaller sized gun matched to the physical size of a child so that they can be taught to handle one properly and safely without having to struggle with using an adult sized gun.

The only gun laws needed IMHO should relate to (1)how they are used and (2)what they are used for. Use them with all due consideration of the rights of other people (noise, safety, etc) and use them for legal purposes.

Want to know what I think of the USA's Second Amendment? It's this...

RRR, you and I have both had it out over the subject over the years. I stopped commenting on the subject until a thread was posted about the long gun registry in Canada, a thread in which you also took part even though it had nothing to do with the country in which you live. I welcome your thoughts.

It has been a while and there have been a lot of threads, but what I remember commenting on about the Canada Long Gun Registry was as reported a failure and if it could not work there it could not work here. My first post: "An expensive lesson to those in the USA who continue to promote gun registration." I went back and read my posts and could not find anywhere I said what Canada should or shouldn't do about gun control. If I did, I apologize.

Thank you very much for shifting the conversation back to where it belongs. I lost focus on the age (when it comes to this issue everybody tends to lose the underlying circumstances). And you are correct on your other points as well.

It is hard for me to imagine what this incident will do psychologically to the five year old, who killed his little sister.
Two bad losses here. And maybe more considering what the parents must be feeling also.
These are little kids. Who was protecting them? Why was ammo for that gun kept anywhere near it?
Some really bad decisions made here. And a lifetime of tears. I feel badly for the whole family.

maybe we should be teaching gun safety in kindergarten. The NRA's approach is simple and good.
Perhaps it could be added to Drop and Roll.

Well said. Rare that I can't argue or add. And notice the lack of the smiley...nothing funny in this case at all.

Some 43 years ago this very thing happened in Flint, MI. Ages were a little different, but outcome was the same, sibling killed sibling. I believe dead child was about 5 years old. In their grief the parents did a very generous thing and allowed doctors to harvest organs. I was ten at the time and was lucky enough to receive one of the kidneys. My Aunt managed to find out who these people were and we visited them about a year later to show there generosity had paid off. I probably wouldnt be here banging on a keyboard if it weren't for those parents.

On to the subject at hand. I'm a firm believer in gun control - being able to hit your target!!! When someone can guarantee 100% that this will never happen again, I'll believe in the other form of gun control. In this situation the children should be taken from the parents. Seems harsh, but if more parent lost their kids or were held responsible for the their kids actions maybe we would have more parents and less baby makers.
Also any crime committed with a weapon should start with the death penalty and nobody should be on death row for more then two years.
