I went through and greased my FEL and BH today for the first time since I got my BX24 tractor. I had three fitting on the BH that would not take grease. Two of them were on the stabilizing arms and I was able to take them apart and clean them up and got them working again. The third one is the bottom main pivot for the BH. Has anyone ever taken that apart. I tried to get it apart but had no luck. So I tried a different tactic and pulled out the grease fitting and cleaned the inside of the pivot all out and tried using a piece of stiff wire to clean out the hole that feeds the grease out to the joint. I thought for sure that would work but I still could get any grease to go in. You would think that the pressure that a grease gun can create would blow any blockage out with ease. So I filled the small reservoir where the grease usually resides with brake cleaner hoping that with some time it will clean it out and allow grease to flow again. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they fixed it.

When we have that trouble with our milk trucks, sometimes smacking next to the fitting with a hammer while trying to apply grease will allow it to take it. Good Luck!

Just out of curiosity....have you tried using a different grease gun? I thought at one time I was having the same problem, but ended up finding out my grease gun was malfunctioning. Switched to another grease gun and what do you know......It greased up fine. Just a thought. There's not much to grease fittings, so usually its something else, not the fitting.

All the other grease fittings worked just fine. When I had the fitting out of the spot giving me trouble I put it on the grease gun and it fed grease just fine. On the two I took apart and fixed, the hole in the side of the pivot pin that feeds the grease into the joint was plugged up and required some scraping to get it cleaned. I'm guessing that the lower pivot of the BH has the same problem but I don't know how to get that pivot pin out.

if you got it out you should have chucked it and put a new one in------they are very cheap

Is it still under warranty? I would at least call your dealer service dept. and see what it could be. If its clogged up and still under warranty, I'd get the dealer to replace all the fittings and clean all the pivot pins....but I'm guessing its not under warranty which means something or someone may have put a cheap grease in it or something. Outta Idea's here other than that.

I replace any fitting that does not take grease. I have found the spring and or the ball gets dirty and won't allow grease. Watch out for the size if you replace them. I think most are 8mm. I have a box of various sizes and carefully replace the zerks that don't take grease. Watch you don't cross-thread them.

I had the same issue when I lubed up my FEL, in my case it was operator error, the grease gun was out of grease :ashamed:.

The fitting itself is fine. I tested it after I took it out. I'm pretty sure the problem is that hole in the side of the pivot pin is clogged up and won't let the grease out of the cavity of the pivot pin into the joint. When the grease gun is out of grease the handle of the gun will pump with ease. In this case I can't push the handle of the grease gun down.

With FELs and backhoes, I grease them every 4 hours of run time, or if it's only used for a few minutes at a time, say once a month, I grease it every time. Yes too much grease looks messy, but it is much better than not having adequate lube...
My M9540 I just bought this spring, NONE of the FEL pins near the bucket would take grease... I had to pound each one out, wire wheel the crud off, coat with grease, reassemble and then all was fine.. The zerks were all fine once the pin was out. I pumped grease through when the pins were removed and every time I got a plug of crud, then clean grease..
