Mate, I'm no expert (heck, I'm just starting out!) but I wouldn't downsize the 4410. If anything you could sell the backhoe and trade in the 455 for something that would more than fill the gap that it does.

The main reason that I wouldn't downsize the 4410 is what you say about moving your wood and all of the other things that you don't know what you'll need it for in the future... We're the same age and not getting any younger. You've got the lifting/grappling capability for now and, I guess, for the unexpected.

Sorry for the ramble but it just 'feels wrong' to consider going all the way down to a 1000 Series, unless it's exactly what you need.

Yeah, ya'll are confirming what's been nagging at me. I was contemplating scaling down to simplify my life, and because I am not using the capacity of the 4410 all that often. However, when I do use it, I love the mass and power. I wouldn't consider trading for another similarly sized and powered tractor...there's nothing wrong with mine and no features on the newer ones that I can't live without. I could get a mid-mount for the 4410 to do the yard, but it isn't as nimble as the 455 and there are times and jobs where 2 tractors really does work out well.

Thanks to all for your comments.

The 1026r will definitely be more nimble- I like the improved maneuverability in tight quarters. Smaller footprint saves space in my shed too, more room for other junk!
If you feel like you don't need as much machine as the 4410, the 1-series could be a nice change.
1) just takes longer to do tasks, very noticeable when downgrading machine capacity!
2) the 260 hoe is fairly anemic in both strength and reach compared to 48hoe, unless you see yourself using it regularly, save the premium price of the tlb package and use the savings to rent a mini-x when you need it.
3) you can add a grapple, but make sure the capacity you need is there, and the ground clearance you'll be giving up can be very important depending on your terrain.
