Maybe the annoying noise I've been attributing the dear wife is something else. :confused3:

I'll get hit later for this.

A colleague who lives in the eastern side of Wake County said she was hearing a few. These things are everywhere. Yesterday one was under the tin on my tractor shed and started "singing" my son an I ducked because our first thought was it was automatic gun fire!

They are demons I tell you.......well at least a little aggravating

I watched some hit the water Sunday evening late and early Monday morning on the lake. Didn't see many hits by bass but the little guys just picked them a part!

I remember back in the mid 70's up in Kirksville Missouri, they covered the sidewalks and streets - an inch or two thick. The noise was unbearable. It was a surreal couple of weeks!! Wish I had taken pics!

Dean - their larva cases are an inch deep in places under trees. They hatched here 2 weeks ago and still seem to be getting louder each day. They land on you when you walk around and when they fly off they sound like jets. Worse than the sound now is the smell - since millions of them are now dying, at times it smells like a chicken processing plant. We did try them as bait when float fishing on the river on Memorial day - caught a few bass and brim with them. Also, one went on the grill along with the bar b que chicken. It was reported as having a somewhat nutty flavor. Here's a photo of their cases from 2 weeks ago. There are more now.

Have eaten fried grasshoppers in Thailand... not bad and fairly cheap street food. No cicadas here yet but lots of stink bugs.
