Dean - their larva cases are an inch deep in places under trees. They hatched here 2 weeks ago and still seem to be getting louder each day. They land on you when you walk around and when they fly off they sound like jets. Worse than the sound now is the smell - since millions of them are now dying, at times it smells like a chicken processing plant. We did try them as bait when float fishing on the river on Memorial day - caught a few bass and brim with them. Also, one went on the grill along with the bar b que chicken. It was reported as having a somewhat nutty flavor. Here's a photo of their cases from 2 weeks ago. There are more now.
