Does anyone experience difficulty in engaging 4WD by pulling up on T handle on left side of Operator station? Manual says stop and engage clutch but it also says move handle forward which is wrong . The handle only moves up or down . On a test drive I could get it to engage but often by repeatedly moving slightly forward or backward by rolling tractor slightly which seemed to eliminate gear binding? Any advice on engaging and disengaging 4WD?

Seems like you got it.

If as you describe, it is characteristic of engaging/disengaging MFWD on most any tractor. Of the MFWD tractors I've owned I don't recall any of the operator manuals ever mentioning this.

I have a 5303 which is the same as the 5065E. My 4WD engagement is on the left side when seated and is a lever. I do find engagement is much smoother when moving forward or backwards in a straight line, no turning, with no wheel spin.

Curious about the knob to pull on. Must be something new?

I usually engage/disengage at a slow crawl, feather the throttle with a little pressure on the lever, when there's no torque on the drivetrain it'll almost slide in/out of 4WD by itself.

I think it is like any un synchronized gear box. if the gear teeth line up when you come to a halt it will pop right in easy and if it doesn't then move forward or back a few inches to get the drive gear to turn a half tooth to line it up. Coming to a rolling stop with the clutch in while the wheels are pointed straight ahead gives you your best chance of the teeth lining up on the first shot.

Yep... x2 here. Have always been moving slowly while engaging and disengaging 4WD. Like silk-pie... smooth and sweet!

x3 Same problem here before I discovered the moving slowly trick.

x4 it also helps to have bucket empty or at least almost on the ground.

While not always successful for this reason I often put my tractor into MFWD in advance of maybe having a need for it.

I just bought a 2014 JD 5075E with cab. I have no problems getting the system to engage. But, I have to stand on the lever (to the left of the seat) to get the thing to disengage. Should I try pushing the clutch in and out slightly to get the system to disengage?
