Tractor
ford
I just purchased an older ford with a loader and backhoe. I am new to this formum so I hope I am doing this correctly.

the front tires are bad. they are a 6-16 tire. can I put light truck tires on the front or do they have to be implement tires?
also, where would the information plate be located on the tractor? There is one for the loader and backhoe, but can not find for the tractor. The tractor has Ford stamped on the fendors, and has a large Ford emblem on the front, about 4 inches round.

thanks in advance.

Can you put light truck tires on it, yes, or really trailer tires more likely to get that narrow, now should you is a different question. If this is a full sized construction back hoe I would NOT, but if it had 6.00-16 I'm guessing its more a 40 HP utility tractor with a backhoe.

Make sure you don't go to an inferior ply tire, but if its running 8 ply now, I wouldn't loose sleep with 8/10/12 ply trailer tires if you have a source for dirt cheap used ones. If buying new, I would guess that 8 ply 6.00-16 cost less then similar rated trailer tire.

I'm normally the last one to vote safety/caution, but a 12,000 lbs backhoe can easily lift 2500-3000 lbs in front bucket, putting a lot of weight in the front tires. If this is say a 2500-4000 lbs 2wd tractor that happens to have a loader and a three point hoe that changes things, I'd slap some 235/75r16 load range d/e on that sucker without a second thought.

Is the machine 4wd? What model is it?

the tires are scuffed badly and I can not make out the load rating. The tires I am thinking of putting on are load rated E. this tractor is for small projects only. The machine is 2wd, but do not know the model. It is fairly small, only 18 feet long with the backhoe on.

I think load E tires will work for your purpose. To the best of my knowledge 6.00-16s come in 4,6, and 8 ply, and E=8 ply

yes.. you COULD put used truck tires on the front. I have used tires onmy 850 loader tractor.

that is a 4cyl prior model if my eyes are seeign the pad well enough.

check onthe trans bellhousing aft of the starter for the id number.

without being able to see the front axle and more of the tractor.. can't say much more. i do see it has radius rods.. so not a hd axle..e tc.

This did not help ?

Numbers are located on the right side, toward the back, just behind the starter. They are located on top of a lug on the flywheel housing.
Numbers are as they appear closes to the engine to the outside.

have you noticed that the info you gave him won't help at all?

he doesn't seen to have a 65+ 3 cyl model.. which is what that info is for....

starter ain't on right side on a 4 cyl prior..
