Problems with Trespassers

   / Problems with Trespassers #51
I have put up game cameras. Put those up on Monday afternoon.

You can say goodbye to the game cameras. If they will assault you on your property they won't think twice about theft. They will take them if they see them. I suspect that these folks have an eye for stuff like that.
I suggest you get the game cameras.
Spend the money on firearms and a video recorder. Teach your wife to use both. These people will be back soon and you just need to be in the right spot to record the behavior. Use the weapons to protect yourself and the camera. Be sure to not let them take it( the camera) when and if they see you or your wife getting the video.
I suspect that they will soon begin to understand that this is a lost cause. Be prepared for retribution. Setup the game cameras at your house.
you should be able to file a restraining order based on what has happened. Do that.

Set up a game camera to watch the other camera. That way if they steal one, you have a video of it.

Castle law. You have the right to protect yourself on your own land. If that happened to me, the paramedics would be there, not the police.

a simple way to control them when they approach you is imediately video record them, if you have a smart phone this would be easy as it's probably always with you. If they see you with the camera they will get off the land asap in fear of police and they won't act abusive becasue it will be on video. On the other hand, if they are really crazy they just might try to confront you about the video to remove your proof so you'll need to be able to defend yourself if they are going to be that agressive. if you do carry a weapon be sure not to do so in a menacing way...they'll claim you were threatening them with it.

..I didn't read all posts so If I'm repeating this from prior post please forgive me.

First off, don't go shooting anybody unless you really feel like they are going to do you serious physical harm. What you have going on here is a group mentality. As individuals, they would probably seem like OK people, but they get together as a group, add a little booze and/or drugs, and they all get tough.

I agree with getting as much as you can on film and going to the head of the police, and like others have said, tell them you are afraid for your life and your familys. Get this all done in an offical manner, that way if something does happen, they were told about it ahead of time.

Another thing, this problem probably won't go away and don't assume it will.

Dodge I don't know what it takes to make you feel like "they are going to do you serious physical harm." But when a gang of 6 - 8 come and surround me, pushing, threatening, pushing my wife with an ATV and throwing metal fence posts I see a threat of serious physical harm. You must have thicker skin than I. What is sad is two separate LEO's say there is nothing they can do when assault, terrorist threats were made, vandalism and trespassing happened. From what I read both LEO's saw and talked to these guys. Heck the State Trooper knew what was going on, chased them down and didn't bust a girl for illegal drugs because she was going to turn 18. I would be talking to the DA and put it on record I was not going to let anything happen to my family.

Caps said it well, I AM IN FEAR OF MY LIFE, LOOKING FOR ADVICE, DID NOT WANT TO RESORT TO ARMS.

My pappy would beat the piss out of them for the insults to my mammy and sis. But then again, my pappy is big and intimidating and used to do arm rassling. His methods are advisable to do if your small and not used to be tough

I agree with arming your self. I don't know that game cameras will be worth much in court, but they might help.
1. Get armed
2. Get restraining order, they're not hard to get, and that means if they come with x number (1000?) Feet they violate it. (Probably makes self defense claim Much easier too)
3. In the cops defence they aren't surveyors, you say you own it, they say they own it; that part would be a civil issue. Now if you told them you wanted to file assualt charges and they ignored you, that's different. If you don't ask to file charges, and no ones bloody and beaten, they aren't going to volunteer to do hours worth of paper work, only to drop charges once everyone calms down.
4. Don't do anything stupid.... no traps, don't fire a gun at their truck just for trespassing, ect. Or you'll be sitting in jail for multiple counts of attempted murder.
5. Careful you don't leave anything valuable in yard (boat, tractor, motorcycle) or they may randomly catch on fire.

You also might want to forget ever putting any livestock, cattle or anything else on your property until you resolve this visitation....Based on what you have described they will kill or steal whatever you put out there...you and your family are in danger out there...arm yourself or sell the place.

Good advice, IMHO.

I don't know the gun laws in your state, but where I am from open carry is always legal on your own property, and concealed carry is available by permit.

I would be carrying a handgun openly on my hip in your situation, with pepper-spray as a backup. Have a large male buddy or relative available on a moments notice to also be armed and cover your backside. If they approach you on your property verbally tell them that you have a weapon and to keep their distance. If the group encircles you again go back-to-back with the buddy and keep the gun in one hand and the pepper spray in the other. Have your wife videotaping the encounter from a safe distance, or from in the house if possible. She should also be armed.

And video cameras covering the exterior of your residence 24/7 are a must have in this situation.

Good luck. :(

Gotta think that the first party to introduce a firearm into this dispute loses. Not to say I wouldn't have one, but it sure needs to be last resort. Castle laws notwithstanding, it's going to be one hearsay against the other when you get to court. And the tough boys may welcome the escalation after a few beers; clowns like that are likely to have a gun around.

I like the personal visit to the PD and ask for advice scenario, and I would go the game cameras one better with live and recorded video surveillance. But then I like that sort of thing (CCTV). I guess I would also be looking at sales opportunities for that there property, but it's easy to say since I have no stake in the place.
