Mowing Pto speed brushhogging

The weeds you are cutting look pretty mild, not super thick or tall. Unless that field is rougher than a cob, I would be rolling along quite a bit faster than what your speedo shows...probably at 4-5 mph.

Entirely your choice of course. I am only commenting. If she starts to run hot, or bogs down, drop down a gear or two. I like the little bit extra breeze, but only if its a smooth ride :)

Nice looking tractor by the way!

If the cut looks good and the discharge is not clumping one can run the speed he wishes is my view. In 6" diameter trees you need 540 RPM. :)

Ya the pic in that spot look milder than it is . It would bog running at 2300 engine rpm / 540 . In 3rd low . Would have to drop it to second gear . One section I would have drop to 1rst low . But it was 4-5 tall and a wet stop so the grass there is tough .

The many thing I was worried if I had it wound up to far . But from all the comments . Looks like 2300/540 is not to high .
This is the heavyset stuff I had tried it on . The other was short and I just cut it super low . But only ran at about 1500 engine rpm . And like 2 high . But like said it was a foot high . .

But looks I'm good .

Thanks again guys .

And as for as the temp. It's got no higher that right in the middle .

But it's seems its going to be a fuel hog . But I'm used to the fuel sipper mf 135 .

My M9540 has never bothered to run above that mid level either, no matter how hard I'm using it. It really surprised me because I was used to having to give our old tractor a breather every once in a while.

Well my mf 135 never runs hot hot but if it does run hoter than its normal it means you need to clean the radiator and its screen . Because they will be clogged with dust and debris. a water hose washout than ya good to go tell its dusted up again . Brushhogging it gets more dust and debris .

But so far I'm happy with the m7040 .

Isn't it easier on the PTO clutch if you start it a low rpms under no load and then bring the PTO up to speed?

Ya i always do that even with the old mf 135 .

I've been running mine at full PTO speed with the MX 5100 or slightly lower.

One thing I've noticed with the Kubota that I've never noticed on my Massey Ferguson is heat coming off the transmission housing. After mowing some admittedly thick weeds for about an hour or more I can really feel that heat coming off the transmission. Trans. oil level looks fine and engine temp. looks ok as well. I know I'm sitting a lot closer to the machinery on the Kubota but it does get a lot hotter in the seat than I would like. Anybody else notice that problem?

I noticed the same thing that it was way to hot . Can't see how a cab tractor could cool the inside . It was about 92 when I was doing this also but I could really tell the heat difference .

Well an old 135 MF was built for grunt work in its day. What type transmission does the Kubota have. If it hydro static you have a lot of slipping going on.
