Can you blend synthetic and "real" oil

/ Can you blend synthetic and "real" oil #21
Hi,
I generally change oil at 2 or 3 times the recommended interval.
OK I'll get off the soapbox.
Dick

At $40.+ per gallon I'd lengthen the intervals as well.

22 years USAF Vehicle Maintenance.
You cause more damage from not having enough oil in your engine than any amount of mixing of dino vs synthetic.
And we never lost an engine or had to junk one early just because the engine oils didn't match.

I second that, as an army maintenance officer and as an industry trouble shooter, the biggest problem with oil performance results from there being "no oil"

Hi,
I have worked with engine oils for 36 years with ExxonMobil as an application engineer ....... ("S"-for spark ignited and "C" for compression (diesel) ignited).

what.. no mention of S / Service and C / Commercial? ;)

Good observation. Even though the API website mentions Service and Commercial designations in one posting, they also mention Spark and Compresion in another. As an old oil formulator, I consider the service/commercial too vague. I'm not sure what "service"covers. What about diesels in non-commercial service. (RV's Marine, Vans and others) and what about gasoline engines in commercial service (P/U Trucks, vans etc) With the spark ignited and compression ignited (which was the original designation) there is no confusion on what oil is specified.

i know. I was just poking ya.

I too think it should be spark / compression. seems much more descriptive to me...

I have read where real oil is now 25% synthetic to meet the newer rating.
