The R-44 series helo uses a 10 mm magnetic bolt located in the tail rotor differential which is safety wired in place these bolts have worked free in the past leading to differential seizure and uncontrolled crash ,Would you really like to fly at 5,000 feet going 110 miles an hour and depend on 1 10 mm bolt ?

I've worked on more than a few they are the low budget end of the helo world . one step above home built / experimental

It cant be any worse than the blackhawk. I swear it seems the blackhawks have killed more soilders in afganistan than the enemy combatants have.

That's like comparing apples to grapes , R-44 cost about $400,000.00 new Black hawk cost about $6,000,000.00 I would think that the problem would be in handing a 20 something year old pilot a 6 million dollar weapon and sending them into harms way rather than a ride to your buddy's hunting camp in an R-44 that weighs 2400 lbs and can only carry about 800 ,yet the black hawk can carry 10,000 lbs of weapons alone

I've flown over 100 flights in a Blackhawk with never a glitch, all over Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't have quite the deep dedication and love as I have for the Huey. It hauled my butt out of many a bad spot. :thumbsup:

I certainly mean no personal offense,,,, but those guys were CRAZY!!! They were used to draw fire. Flyin around like a mosquito trying to get action!!! CRAZY I tell ya!!! And I'm so very proud of every one of them!!!
