WANT!

I saw those Hughes 500's leading the way in the first picture , Now that's a perfect personal helo in my book ! paint one John Deere green and that would be the one I WANT !

+1! High performance, compact, light weight, perfect for getting into tight spots. Back when I was land surveying we used them as transport to mountain tops and small clearings in the forest. The pilot could put one skid down on a cliff edge and we would (carefully) step out and unload our equipment while he was under power. Great machines.

The R-44 series helo uses a 10 mm magnetic bolt located in the tail rotor differential which is safety wired in place these bolts have worked free in the past leading to differential seizure and uncontrolled crash ,Would you really like to fly at 5,000 feet going 110 miles an hour and depend on 1 10 mm bolt ?

How can a properly safety-wired bolt work free? Answer: it can't. I suspect human factors.

I've worked on more than a few they are the low budget end of the helo world . one step above home built / experimental

I have myself as well ;)

Their low cost is part of what leads to "incidents". Some people who should never own a helicopter, can, due to the low cost of entry.

They were used them pretty hard, and all things considered, they were decent. And cheap to run.

How about doing it with a bit larger craft???
