i have a valve for my loader what you are saying is for me to hook 2 cylinders up on my tractor?

Allen, morning...... this post doesn't tell us much.... Who is the "who" you are talking to... and where did the 2 cylinders come from....

If you would reference your questions to what has been said, using the "reply with quote" button, we could figure out what your question refers to.... and answer it....

I'm not trying to jerk you around here... just trying to put 2 and 2 together to give you a correct answer.....

If you have a car/pickup type steering box, and are changing from manual steering to power steering, then won't you just throw away the old manual steering box, and replace it with a new (or used) power steering box?

As far as the manual steering box, take it apart, clean it up, and check it out. At least get the top cover off.

There is often a tension adjustment screw which you can tighten, although the steering box may not wear evenly, so there may be more wear in the center-straight position, than in the sharp turns, so getting the perfect adjustment can be difficult.

My Freeman had a bad flex disk (outside of the steering box), which should be about $10 to rebuild. Anyway, look at the entire system.

As mentioned by some people, power steering kits for tractors can be 100% hydraulic, with not steering box. For example, here is a JD Kit. Where does it attach? Does it replace the steering gear? Or attach to the steering gearbox?

It is possible your steering box is stock Car/Pickup/Truck equipment, or has some automotive components inside.

there will be a sector backlash adjustment stud on either side of the box. unfortunately does nothing for thrust slop.. which requires disassembly to repalce bearings and races..

im sorry i got confused on some of the earlier posts right now i have a car rack mounted on my tractor, but the steering shaft is bad on my box, i was thinking about removing the worm gear and just putting a plate on top the box, i have taken one of the gears out of the box because the pittmanarm was worn and just fell of, now the right side pittmanarm will not budge so i can't get the gears out, i have managed to lose my manual during the moveso i'm not sure how i put gears back in the box , i will be going toon a run to get the bearings i need to put the box back togther so wile im out i will pick up a new manual.

Usually the boxes just need to get new bearings, which is fairly simple. If you want to go with power steering I believe they have different steering boxes anyway---you see them on ebay sometimes and are expensive...
i agree the ones i have managed to find are in the realm of what i can buy another tractor,

a standard 2 jaw tie rod pin puller/pitman arm puller, etc will pull the sector arms.

the double sector is the foreward one. the rear sector is the single gear. you line them up so both arms are slightly swept back with steering centered. the sector arms are master splined so you cant get em on wrong.

set thrust bearing preload with shim stac under column cover.. and check the top of the column bushing. now. slip steer wheel on. spin wheel hard over left, count turns. then hard over right. should have same # turns from center to right, then left. if not. you have a tooth off ont he sector.
manual tells you how to count the teeth etc. my manual is not with me. but I never use it anymore. just find the big tooth and point it up and mesh em.. you will see that you ar meshing so you get same gear travel tooth for tooth each direction. mind you you have to hav the forard sector aligned with the ballnut at half of it';s travel on the worm too.

int he end.. from center to r and left. same number of turns. etc. then adjust sector backlash by looseningthe sector stud nuts, and screw in foreward sector till it snugs.. don;t force it. then lock nut. then do aft. adjsut with wheels center. t hen check. you cannot take out all the play in the enter or it will get tight on the extreems.. as most of the wear happens int he center.. etc.

could you tell me, how do i get the sector shaft off the covers?

i'm going to assume you don't have a manual.

allthe late steering boxes have an adjuster stud that sets in a 'trap' in the end of the sector arm. you have to remov ethe locknut and then the bolts from the teardrop covers and then thread the sector adjuster out and it will disengage fromt eh side plates

ocnce you get the manual. or go online to the cnh parts site and see the exploded parts diagram it will be a 'knee slap' and you will go. 'AHH' and see exactly what i described. probably beter than i described, looking at the pics. :)

in any cases. manual boxes are EZ to R&R
