My mother used to make fig preserves and I guess of all the kinds of preserves, the fig was my favorite. And of course, I sure do like eating just plain raw ripe figs, too. But mother used to also finely grind some figs, add a package of dry strawberry jello for those who claimed to not like fig preserves. I don't think you could tell it wasn't just strawberry preserves.

Yes, those are great. I prefer the straight fig preserves. This will be our first year to get some figs (if we beat the birds to them). I had the tree/bush? in an area with not enough sun, and transplanted it last December. Looking much better and some fruit. I also like to just pick and eat. This year was our best so far also with blueberries. My wife has picked many. One of our grandsons (18 months) was here the last few days. Could not start his day without a stop at the blueberry bush that he could reach. First day he picked one that was not ripe....oh what a face...but then he learned that the bluest were the best.

Milton, do you have any wild persimmon trees? If so, be sure to teach your grandson that you only eat the very ripe ones unless you want to do a lot of spitting. It's hard to get that taste of green persimmon out of your mouth.

Yes, lots of wild persimmon trees at the farm land. Deer candy, and pretty good to humans too, UNLESS they are not ripe. That is a weird feeling in the mouth. Everyone has to be tricked once!
