My wife's 2005 Prius uses quite a bit more gas when it's really cold. The heat for the cabin is provided by the radiator. Thus the gas motor has to run to heat the car. At other times it is switching back and forth between gas and electric as needed. Luckily we don't have that many really cold days a year.

Yea, the old one was built in 1929, or there abouts. It was held together with cables when I was there in the late 70's. So I would say it's time for a new one.

Me either, two mowers, a trimmer, several chain saws, a log splitter and a snowblower, they all use gas with ethanol, are run the last part of the season with stabilizer, and all fuel is emptied from them for their respective off-seasons(which I've always done.) Never had an issue with any of them regarding the ethanol...Not to say that there's no one that has but I bet if it has happened, it's been something sitting for a while.

Sent from my LGL35G using TractorByNet

Finally had to rebuild the carb on our 1980's MTD 18hp (briggs ) riding lawn mower the integrated fuel pump failed - looked like some corrosion on the large spring and carb casting, and the diaphragms were not flexible like the new ones.
the new kit $10 is rated for 15% ethanol but i won't use it if they do start selling it.. Still surprised how long it has run without problems...

The main problem I have seen with the ethanol fuel is mainly swelling of fuel lines on a couple of chainsaws and also primer bulb failures...

Also in our area non ethanol premium is available for about 45 cents more per gallon than 87 octane regular...sooo If i do buy (special) gas it will be the non ethanol premium...

The only problems I've had with ethanol is the fuel lines in both of my chainsaws and the fuel tank cap on one of them. The lines turned to mush and had to be replaced and the fuel filler cap seems to have swelled, making it all but impossible to use my fingers to get it off and on. I use an adjustable channel lock pliers to do that now. But the engines still run fine. I wonder if they make a different fuel line that is resistant to the ethenol?

Ya, my fuel caps did the same thing..

This might be why I have not had a problem with "E contaminated gas" since I always buy premium for the small engines.

I thought that all of the gas grades around here at Ethanol though.

Later,
Dan

^ Yep.

I am curious what our friends on here from Iowa truly think about ethanol.

Corn-based ethanol disgusts me as an engineer and environmental advocate. Negative energy balance (we have to IMPORT more foreign petroleum just to make our ethanol) is something that cannot be ignored. Means a net increase in emissions and pollution from a supposed renewable fuel. Not to mention the detrimental effects of intensive mono-culture farming on our land, and supporting (enslaved by?) corrupt and evil corporations like monsanto. And to top it off, it's bad for our vehicles and engines! Why is this allowed to continue? Pure madness!

It is allowed to continue because it lines legislators pockets. Subsidies travel both ways. The stuff is an American hoax of the largest scale right up there with fluoride in our drinking water.
