Ford says no to Diesel F-150

Nothings changed in 40 years. Unless you run big miles, all factors considered diesels don't pay out. In the the early 60's a big Ford V-8 (534 cu in) or International V-8 (549 cu in) was an equal match for say a Cummins NH 220 in terms of power. The gas jobs were pigs when it came to fuel but unless you ran the mileage, it was a tough sell to justify the diesel premium. Longevity? Again with a 100,000 mile engine warranty on say the Ford Super Duty (not to be confused with todays Super Duty) the motor was big bang for the buck. The Cummins wouldstill be going strong long after the gassers had been rebuilt but if say you were running dump trucks at 20 or 30,000 miles a year, gas was a good bet.

As so many have pointed out, the math hasn't changed.

Before I get flammed-yes if you are pulling a mini excavator frequently with an F-350, that too is good justification for the diesel premium. Like someone said, check out the beds of most diesel pick ups next time you are at the mall-most are spotless!

I'm starting to get confused about why everyone performs bed inspections on diesels. But I am going to go by the Halloween store and throw some fake severed limbs in it so people with too much time can do double takes lol.

There is a difference between trucks at the mall and trucks not at the mall. I have definitely seen what you are talking about, but where I live most of the trucks are used... hard. I have a beat up rusty '96 dodge 2500 that fits right in around here... even with new trucks. If I take it to the 'burbs it's a different story. Most people around me are farmers and only replace their trucks when they need to, and because there is probably some sort of tax write-off, not because they want a pretty truck.

People are also pretty brand loyal too it seems. If they are ford guys they will buy a ford, instead of worrying about who happens to have 4 more horsepower or gets 2 mpg better for that given year, or if one company has a better navigation system. That's something I always find odd about this site, people chase numbers a lot and are mostly worried about who is the best at the current time. I keep my vehicles a long time and worry about ten years from now. I have good luck with gm an dodge trucks and am comfortable working on them. When I work on other people's fords, they just seem strange to me. They might not be bad vehicles but something just doesn't feel right when I work on them so I try to avoid them. Dodge (ram) has changed a lot since my '96 with many buyouts so I'm not sure I would be comfortable with them anymore either.

If Ford and GM do nit release their half ton diesels, they are really mussing the boat,

I'd live a 1500 Sierra with the 4.5L Duramax. If not, will step up to a 2509HD Duramax next time.

Diesels are good on tractors, construction equipment, small cars like a jetta, SUV's like the cayenne, medium duty trucks, and semi trucks. I don't think any of them in a light duty truck are as reliable as what they should be. They should run 250k or 300k pretty much problem free. The gas 3/4 and 1 tons are getting better and better MPG's to make it harder to justify buying a diesel. The only advantage to a diesel 3/4 or 1 ton is the increased towing capacity over the gasser. As efficient and reliable as a gas motor is now days I don't see a benefit to a diesel 1/2 ton at least in the US. Also look at what it costs to repair a gas motor vs a diesel. A diesel 1/2 ton should get over 30 MPG's but it won't every happen.

Why should every one else get screwed because of dirt cheap gas in USA?

All the nay Sayers are right lets not have options what a stupid idea. I have the Eco boost a fair shake on the last half ton I bought. I was not impressed. It was more responsive than the 5.0 though I will give it that. I test drove the Eco boost for a few days and the mileage just didn't seem like it was any better than the 2013 ram hemi I ended up with. I think the diesel option ram will be a big hit. I am waiting to see the EPA fuel numbers before I'm completely sold but no matter what I applaud ram for giving us the option. People keep claiming how good these gas burners are but every one I have experience with font even come close to pulling like a diesel. I pulled my skid steer with one of my f250 work trucks it was horrible. The 6.2 doesn't feel like it has any power till above 4,000 rpm. It would scream up every hill I hit just to maintain speed. Just My opinions take them for what they're worth.

The gas motor tow about as good as a diesel. Go to ford truck enthusiasts and check out the Ohio truck meet.
