different fluid effect on hydraulic motor

bdog,
Since I have never operated a skid steer mounted PHD I have what may be dumb question but.. I am going to ask anyway.

Does the auger have any freeplay in tilt or tip function? I.e. As you are drilling the hole is the auger allowed to follow the hole or does the loader geometry force the auger against the side of the hole potentially causing binding? From the reading through your posts showing pressure readings, the motor is trying to generate torque, something is physically / mechanically preventing it from turning.

Can you show us a good close up picture of the cutting bit.

The ground just naturally gets harder at that depth because it's compacted. In your video it looks like you're maybe pushing down too hard when it's in deep. Can you just feather the down valve when it starts turning hard? Just a thought.

Normally with a PHD either on 3 point or a skid steer mount it wobbles around but it isnt normally an issue as you usually are only drilling 3 foot or so deep.

On my drill the auger is contained in a mast and is driven up and down by a separate hydraulic cylinder. It cant really move around much and drills pretty straight. I am sure some of the binding is due to the hole not being perfectly straight though.

I can feather it but it doesn't make it go any faster. In the video I am just trying to drill it as fast as I can. I have found that when it gets to where it doesn't want to turn the fastest way to make progress is to jab the bit up and down. The hydraulics are really touchy also it lifts up in a hurry if it is not spinning.

I am still betting that the ground material left in the hole is causing much resistance.

I would pull the auger out turning every couple of feet dug to get rid of the material.

One other thing is if the fluid gets real hot, the hyd motor will bypass some of the fluid and lose some efficiency.

Is the hyd motor getting all the fluid or is the fluid shared by the lift and descend valve/cyl.

Otherwise, does the hyd motor slow when the lift is moving downward?
