I work for a Chevy dealer and we sold trucks that were lifted with warranty. As far as odometer ECM has to be reprogrammed if tire size is in GM data parameters only. It also affects ABS brake operations. As for warranty unless for some reason you have drive train concerns that are uncommon there is no reason for any body to report it to GM but they do have vin info for program. But if you are going to install aftermarket program then that wipes out factory program and then warranty get void on power train only. Some 4x4 shops may have adaptor to install on VSS trick ECM to see correct speed.

I think most dealers are going to put a quality lift kit on a truck, the ones that come with new spindles. Those cheap lift kits leave the ball joints and tie rods on a bad angle.

Thats different. Dealer installed options are covered.

My Titan came lifted and 35 MT tires.

Chris

How much lift is on your Titan? 35's would require more than a leveling kit. I think you had 33's on it in an earlier post (285/70/R17's). 35's would be 315/70/R17. Did you get a new lift?

That can get tricky..Most of the dealers farm out the lift on new trucks and the installation and components are covered by that shop/manufacturer..My neighbor ran into this with a 9" lifted Dodge HD2500..The pitman arm snapped in half. The Lift installation company said it wasn't their fault and Dodge said that they weren't the installer. He ate the cost of the flatbed and repair....The truck was done in Texas and shipped to PA which certainly complicates matters. He has had no other warranty claim rejections beyond that...If his ball joints or something stressed by the 38"'s that are on it fail, we'll have to see how it pans out. It is a pretty truck though.

Wow. 9 inches is ALOT of lift offered from a dealer. Not to mention 38's. Most GM dealers offer a 3 inch lift max on a 1/2 ton w 33's and some aftermarket wheels. I have had my ball joints replaced under warranty on my JK w 35's and was not expecting Chrysler to pay for it. I hope the place that installed the lift on your buddies truck used an aftermarket drop pitman arm with that much lift. The drag link angle would be way to steep with that amount of lift. Either way, it is clearly the lift installer who is at fault.

Sorry, you are right, they are 33's. I got my trucks confused. I had 35's on my F250.

Yes, they are 285/70/17's. Goodyear Wrangler Dura Tracs.

No doubt the installer was at fault..the angle was too steep causing the snap...Thank God it broke when he started the truck when leaving a fire scene..if he'd have been moving it could have been really bad...he said the pop shook the whole truck.

Never been much of a Goodyear fan but Dura Tracs get great reviews on my Jeep forums. Was gonna give them a try but got a good deal on my BFG KM2's. The Dura Tracs are kinda between an A/T and a M/T. Hear they have good road manners. The side lugs look good on them too. Have you had them in any mud yet? They're pretty impressive in some Jeep You Tube vids.

Let me know how your buddies claim turns out. If he bought it off the lot with the mods, the dealership needs to make this right. That's a huge safety issue and he was lucky. I've never seen a kit of that size without a drop pitman arm. He needs to find out what brand kit he has, look at the parts list and see if it was left off. If it was, he has grounds to go after the dealer and the installer. If he mentions "safety " and "me and my family could have been injured or worse" due to leaving out a critical suspension part, I think things will turn to his favor. He needs to do some digging on the kit and get some ammo. If one new stock truck had that type of catastrophic suspension failure due to a wrong part, it would make world news and spin off recalls and bad press.

Yes, great in mud and snow. My truck came from the factory with Hankook DynaPro MT's. They were loud and got louder as they wore. They sucked when it was wet and were not well suited to the towing I do.

These DuraTracs are the best of both worlds. I have had all brands and this is now my go to truck tire.
