Duramax problems! No parts for 2 months

We are really disappointed in gm and the warranty that they say is so good!

Warranty is only as good as the company backing it.

I have said it before and I will say it again, GM will file for Bankruptcy protection in the next 10 years again. They had a real chance to change things and be innovative last time around but chose to continue on the same path.

They are easily as innovative as Ford and Chrysler.

They back their vehicles better than either also. They have higher initial and long term quality than both also.

The Explorer in my bay right now is getting a new engine because it catastrophically exploded. We always joke about quality being job one with Ford.

I wouldn't buy a new domestic car or truck right now myself, but it sure as heck wouldn't be a Ford.

I guess your experience is opposite of mine. My 89 4.3 S10 Blazer had a catastrophic engine failure at under 30K that blew a hole in the intake and damaged the hood. Took a lawyer and 90 days to get it fixed under warranty at Scripture Chevrolet in Connersville. 3K later a catastrophic transfer case failure took out the rear drive shaft and nearly ripped off the rear axle. Again it took a lawyer to get it fixed. The only other time I have even consulted a lawer in 40 plus years was during my separation from my ex wife so I am not the sue happy type.

Prior to us getting married she had to get a lawyer due to a POS Tracker that GM finally bought back.

My 05 Dmax was in the shop at Sam Pierce Chevy in Daleville nearly 30 days in its first year. You name it it broke other than the engine block itself. Limp mode, glow plugs, paint peeling, power seat, leaks, u joint, carrier bearing, injectors, over heating, dash lights, and the list goes on.

I have had two other GM products, both Saturns that were ok. No major issues but sure liked to nickle and dime me.

A dozen Fords, BMW, Honda, Nissan, Toyota have needed nothing more than normal maintenance so my mind is made up no matter what your opinion is.

Defects and performance for car and light-duty truck emission control systems are covered for the first 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. From the first 2 years or 24,000 miles to 3 years or 36,000 miles defects in material or workmanship continue to be covered under the New Vehicle Limited Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty coverage. Specified major components are covered for the first 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first. Defects and performance for heavy duty truck emission control systems including those found in 6.6L Duramax® Diesel Engines are covered for the first 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

- Refer to your Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet for California emission control system warranty details
this is what they offer on a 2014 look and see if you can find your year

if def is not an emission control system, I dont know what is. I have had fords chevys and 1 dodge. In my experience Ford did the best job of Honoring the warranty, and at least made me feel like they cared that my truck was in the shop. I even had a complete engine replaced one time, out of pocket, then got a recall notice on the engine, turned in the paper work FOMOCO sent me a check to repay the money I had spent, just in case that is what caused my problem. That is good customer service.

You make blanket statements based on your limited personal experience.

My opinion is left out of this. Empirical data within the industry as a whole see GM as building higher quality than Ford. The likes of BMW and Ferrari use GM developed technology. Ford can't even keep Lincoln viable despite all their 'innovation'.

I know for a fact that, at least here within the company I work for, that GM stands behind their product far better than Ford. My boss has described in detail how much more leeway he has with goodwill repairs with GM.

You had bad experiences with GM, just like many others have had, but that doesn't make them lack innovation or quality just based off your personal experiences. Yet you say that the 6.0 Ford problems are Internet hype. They have kept the doors open for many a diesel repair shop for the last 10 years.

I don't have a horse in the race. I don't own either a GM or Ford product and likely won't for a long time.

Register on one of the GM forums and post, GM customer service has been responding to complaints on the forums fairly quickly.

I've been very unhappy with both Ford and GM warranty service in the past, however it really seems dealer specific. Some dealers will harass you, some will do everything than can to help. Gotta find the right dealer at the right time.
